Just had my first oil sample done (by Blackstone) and they reported the following:

"Ring wear was a little high in this first sample from your Cummins. This along with the high soot and viscosity both show a possible combustion problem developing. "

I have 164,019 miles on the truck and had 3,700 miles on this oil.

I am running (dino) Rotella T - 15w40

All of my Sample Data was normal or better than normal except:

Chromium= 5 and SUS Viscosity @ 210 deg. = 79. 3

Is this truly something I need to be concerned about? What actions (if any) should I take at this point and time.

Thanks

Call the guy at Blackstone and have him explain what you are seeing. He is a nice guy to talk to and very helpful.

Here you go Cooker:

Thanks for posting the entire test results.

Personally I would not be concerned with your results. IMO everything looks fine and I do not see anything that would cause me any alarm.

Your vis may be up a touch, but what does Blackstone know about soot. Your #5 and 370's will add a little soot to your oil that's for sure. You have a possible combustion problem anyway right, too much fuel and not enough air :D

Cooker - That is kinda what I thought and I appreciate your input. Next on my "bomb" item list is a Piers HX-40 that should help since I am still on my stock HX-35. I will sample again at the next oil change just to see what happens.

Thanks again.
