Off Roading Question about tires

Hey Guys,



Last week I put a good sized gash in one of my tires. I decided I want to get new and bigger tires. I would like to know what the biggest size tire I can fit on my factory rim. The truck was optioned with the snow plow package, so the front end has the stiff springs. I would like to put either 315-75-16's or 35x12x16's on. I was wondering if anybody was running these tires on their factory rims?

I ran them with out problems. I just bought some 37 so i had to jump up to a full 16x8. I still have my 315 if you are interested the have a little 3/8 tread on them. if you would like to see a pick check the classifieds. I was running them with a 4. 5 and i had plenty of clearance. i had so much that i put 37 on and still no rubbing. I do not know if you have any suspension mods but alot of people run 315 it like a 2 inch space or a little taller coil. I have seen one stock truck with 315 one and it rubbed a little in the back of the wheel well just when he was turning.

Thanks for the offer, but I should buy a brand new set since I want them to last a while. I believe my rim size is a 16 x 6. 5, if that makes a difference.

if thats the width of your wheel i would not recomend putting a tire that wide one there. you need at least what dodge calls a 16x8 but they really are like 16x7. 7

I ran 305-70-16's this summer without any rubbing. after a while I bought 10 in rims. Looks so much nicer with 10's. I have to say 315's are a very tight fit on a truck with no mods. i would go for the 305-70-16 procomp AT"S or 295-70-16 BFG AT's. 315's on stock rims are a pain (I used to work in a tire shop) I would'nt do it unless you get 8 in or 10in rims. thats my opinion.

10 inch rims look good but are not as practical as something like an 16x8. The reason i say this is, with as truck as heavy as ours/ mine 8000lbs, there no way you will stay on top of any lose soil. At least with the 16x8 you will find the bottom sooner with out digging huge holes.





If you want to see the difference in the two check my reader rigs. The black truck has 15x10 and the white one with the 37 is a 16x8 wheel.

It looks like I will have to go buy a set of 16x8 rims. Does anybody know a good rim this size for a low cost? Thanks

If you want a rim that looks nice i'd go with a American Racing Outlaw II. Thats what I run and I think they look nice. they are made from solid aluminum. My 10's cost me $53 a piece so i'd guess that 8's are about 45-50$ apiece

One more quick question. What for Backspacing and Off-Set will work on my truck? I was looking at a set of Wagon Wheels and wondered if they would work? Here is the link:

The rims on my white truck are Extreme alloy and they sell for $111 a piece. They are some of the strongest ones i could find. I got mine from 4 wheel parts.

man, don't get wagon wheels... those belong in the 70's... let 'em die.



if ya gotta go cheap, go w/ black steel wheels. they look tough!



also, you can get wagon wheels for about $30-40 a piece out of a 4 wheeler magazine... black steel will usually be ~20% higher than wagon wheels, but they look about a thousand times better IMHO

just so you know most steel wheels only have a 2000-2200lbs rating on them.

LoL, I guess you are right. My second choice was American Racing 767 series. They are the black steel wheels. Here are the specs:



Part No. Size Offset Backside Bolt Circle Note

767-6882 16x8 12 5 8x6. 5 5. 15 Bore



It sounds like these should work?

Yep, they'll work. They actually have a little more backspacing (what they call backside) than most aftermarket wheels, so they won't stick out as far.

OK Fellows,



After making up my mind, then changing my mind, and making up my mind again, I finally decided on tires.

I am going to buy a set of Maxxis Buckshot Mudders. I am going with a 305/70-16 on my stock 6. 5'' rim. Big question is WILL THEY FIT? I really don't have the money for rims now, but after a while I will be buying a set of American Racing 767 Series rims. I assume they will fit, but if they don't, will a 285/75-16 fit?
