this weekend, i will be putting on an aftermarket exhaust. I need to try and keep the entire exhaust in reusable shape, especially the downpipe at the turbo, in case the hanger to the truck frame breaks as i have heard is common. as i have looked around underneath, i see there are 2 aluminum band type clamps right behind the turbo. i would assume that the one that is farthest from the turbo (closest to the rear of the truck) is the one that needs to be loosened for removal? how much of a nightmare is this to remove? i hope it isn't like when i took off the muffler! should i spray some lubricant on it a few days prior, to give the metal some time to work its self loose? and lastly, what tools will be best for removing that clamp?

any other tips would be appreciated!! thanks!

are you doing a new down pipe? i jsut did a 5" turbo back, the hard part was getting the old muffler off. but i also used a sawzall to remove everything. only kept the kitty (in the garage). the band clamps dont need to be removed. and yo just need to lossen the one on the down pipe. the other ont he turbo side you would only need to loosen to re "clock" the cast turbo elbow.

yup, new everything, from the turbo back. meet and greet/wrench day this saturday in upstate NY. ive had the straight pipe now for about 2 years, time to tone it down a bit. got the MBRP stainless 4".

My down pipe had the bend already in it and you removed the cast elbow at the turbo. Guess it depends on the exhaust you are getting.
