I have owned two '99's, a 2005 and an early '07 Mega-Cab and now have 2800 miles on my new 2017 4x4, DRW, short bed Mega-Cab. Wow! What a different truck altogether! But I do have some questions....can I use my left over Amsoil Cetane Boost....Amsoil Injector Clean in my new truck? Filling my DEF for the first time created a bit of a mess! No where in the owners manual did I read about the put it...wait...pull out....then fill scenario! Had to get my reading glasses out to try to read the decal on the fuel door....is there any trick to this or "just get the hang of it" with experience? With my past trucks, when pulling my 5th wheel trailers, I would drive using my gauges (EGT's) to tell me when to down shift...when to let off etc., but with my new beast, it just seems to down shift and climb right up! I don't have any way of seeing what my EGT's are so don't know if I am pushing too hard? Do I need to install another EGT gauge or do I assume the computers and transmission know what they are doing? I'm not one to race up and down the mountains here in Colorado, but would like to know how to safely pull my 5th wheel!? Thanks!

The engineers have tested these things to a fare-the-well dragging loads up and down mountains. As long as the trucks are stock, the computer algorithms won't let them hurt themselves. My philosophy is to hitch up, turn on the exhaust brake, put it in tow/haul and let 'er rip. If the engineers screwed up, well, that's why I have an 8 year/120K mile warranty.

While under warranty just enjoy the truck! They can and WILL deny warranty if you delete/add tuner etc. They know if something has been done.

Here is my weight slip, I tow the West Coast with ZERO issues.

There are 5 EGT sensors I am told and they are labeled by number. EGT #1 is near the turbo and EGT #5 is the other end of the exhaust.
You can read the existing EGT sensors through a CTS2 Edge Insight. Or you can monitor the same info with a $8 app on your android phone and a $30-$50 sender that plugs in to your OBD2 connector and has bluetooth capability to send readings to your phone. I saved $350 by using my phone and a cheap OBD2 sender that has bluetooth. If you already have the CTS edge insight, use that. My understanding is the "Insight" just monitors the engine by collecting data? It's not a programmer? I guess that's why they call it "insight" The insight costs more and therefore is an easier and more user-friendly interface. Insight will alert you to regens and other parameters if you set it ti do so. Some like that extra functionality and more user friendly interface.

Just do as Rusty says. If you want to see which gear it is in, you can push down once on the paddle swift button once up to freeway speed. I have 3:42 gears so I lock out 6th and two in 5th.

Just enjoy the ride! Play with all the electronics while the engine and transmission do their own thing.

I do paddle shift going down hills with exhaust brake in full mode.

Fill out your sig line so we know more details. Trim level, transmission, gear ratio etc. SNOKING

I've done some testing while towing which may help make a decision on which gear to use.

Thanks for all the input! My truck has the 3.73's and seems to pull my 15,000 5th wheel with little effort! Was thinking of going with 4.10's but couldn't find one...would've had to order. Time will tell if 3.73's do the job! Most definitely an improvement over my built '07!
Any thoughts on the Amsoil products? Thanks

Just drop it in gear and drive it. There is no need to monitor the EGT because as has already been mentioned you can't hurt a stock truck. And you don't need to use any additives, in fact FCA says none recommended.

I have the Torque Pro app too, but find the lack of information/PID's for my new 2016 2500 6.7, compared to the wealth of them for my old Ecodiesel, dismaying. Any good threads out there for Torque Pro app and Cummins PID's?

Search google play to insure you have all the "plugins" installed on your phone. I found 2 and installed them which gave me a bit more data. What are you wishing you had?

Wish I had a PID that told me when I was in an active Regen. Also, I wish I knew which type

Bob let us know how it pulls with the 3:73 I am looking to buy used and don't find too many with the 4:11's

Choice of gear ratio should include the speed you plan on towing at. The duallies with shorter tires, 4:11 gears, and 6th gear at 60 MPH are turn 1750 RPMs. My SRW with taller tires, 3:42 gears and 5th gear at 60 MPH is at the same 1750 RPM. 1750 RPM is considered the sweet spot for the new 6.7.

So 3:73's "might" put someone at a between gears spot depending on the speed they want to tow! A nice safe and economical 60 MPH speed would have a 3:73 dually turning extra RPMs in 5th and lugging a bit in 6th.

So 3:73 gears would be OK for those that want to tow at 65 in 6th or 55 in 5th.

I had thought 3:73's would be much better in a SRW until I bought one! The 3.:42 work great and allow for a freeway cruiser bobtail. After 14 years with a 47RE and 4:10's the 2015 is 1000% better on the freeway bobtail.

5th gear on the 3.42 calculates out to about a 4.3:1 which works out pretty well for my load. What every your setup, keeping your RPM's about 1500 while towing is best IMO. You can see what happens from the video above what happens when you get to a low rpm, high gear situation. And it doesn't help your MPG.

With the AISIN trans I would go with 3.42's up to 28K, over that 4.10's. As Chris said they both tow at around 1,750 at 60. The good thing for the under 28K combines is the much better economy with the 3.42's running solo.

I have driven my Sons 15 SRW AISIN with a 14K dump trailer VERY overloaded with combined at about 28K. The truck took off with no grunting or groaning on a grade, I was IMPRESSED !

So IMHO the 3.73 is not even needed. The AISIN is the trick to towing HEAVY with the 3.42's. RAM knows this just look at the towing rating with AISIN and 3.42's @ 29,300# Combined.
