Coming up I will be installing some accessories on my truck that have been waiting a LONG time in a box in my gartage. They include an old 12v trumpet horn from an early dodge truck, driving lights, auxiliary reverse lights, as well as a painless wiring block.

My question is this, on the accessories (horn, driving lights, reverse lights) that will be using a relay and a wiring harness that hooks up directly to a fused wire from one of the batteries, is it recommended or even necessary to still use the Painless wiring block to protect the circuit, as the harness has it's own fuse already protecting the main draw.

Thanks.

Shouldn't have to use the painless block if you're using relays with a fuse in-line from your power source. Auxiliary reverse lights, you can use your standard 30 amp relay, tap your +12v from the center pin on your 7 way trailer harness, and your trigger for the relay from the reverse light at your tail lights, or from the trailer harness as well. then run your ground and power wires to your lights.

I believe your trumpet horns should hook up to the existing fused horn circuit if your are doing a direct replacement.

Your driving lights will be the most wiring intensive. Find constant power under your dash for the switch, from the switch to the relay to trigger it, constant power from the battery to the relay, ground the relay, and then from the relay to the lights. You'll want a fuse between the battery and the relay.

Hope this helps.

If you use the painless block you'll wire back to that rather than directly to the battery. The idea of the block is to eliminate the clutter of wires attached to the batteries.

Thanks for the info... pretty much confirmed what I was thinking--

The driving lights (KC Daylighters) and reverse lights (Hella ff75) came with a fused relay harness and switch, and I am going to hook up the horn in addition to the oem horns so I will use a relay triggered by the horn. I MIGHT still use the Painless Block mounted in the engine compartment and wire the harnesses to it (removing the inline fuse that came on the harnesses) just to keep the witing net and clean, since I will still use the Painless block for other accessories as well.
