I have noticed that when my KSB turns off going down the road my engine gains a lot of rattle and noise. If the KSB advances the timing shouldn't the engine get quieter when it turns off? When you advance the timing the rattle increases at idle so why does it get louder when the KSB shuts off? It is almost like the KSB is retarding the timing instead of advancing it. When I unplug the KSB while at idle cold my engine gets quieter also?

I'd have to think about this for a moment and realized that it's all for not. My school bus engines do not use any sort of KSB and therefor is not needed. Remove it and have a cup of coffee knowing it's a job well done.

I just advanced the timing on one of the buses and she sounds much better. I don't know if it's louder or not. Just "better"

If you are at or near stock timing (at least in my obeservations), there is a point that it quitets before getting louder as you advance timing. I R&Red a pump one time and got the timing one tooth retarded, and it was LOUD, along with real smoky (bluish white). Took it all back apart, and it sounded much quieter.

But that still dont explain why your engine gets quieter going down the road, AND quieter when you unplug the KSb when cold. Could it just be the engine getting warmed up and things settling into place? I've had a few diesels that rattled louder when cold than when warmed up.

I don't think it is just getting warm as it happens at the same point every day and it is all at once like the KSB is turning off?? I can do it when it is idleing in the driveway and it gets louder when I pull the wire off the KSB and then quieter when I plug it back on, too strange.
