When's the best time to trade?

I own a Onan Pro 6000E portable generator which has worked extremely well for four years. I use it when I go racing, wheeling it out to provide power for the trailer A/C, lights, air compressor, TV, etc. However, it is a bit louder than what I care for. Any ideas on quieting it down? Different muffler?

Purchasing a new one/another brand is not really in the scope. Besides, scanning the websites, it's almost impossible to find one this large (6Kw) with a 9 gallon tank.

thanks

I have built a 3 sided wall type system out of 1/2" osb and I place it around the gen with the exhaust to the open side. If the gen is placed on the opposite side of the camper with this system around it directing the gen noise outward, it reduces the level of sound considerably. If you are in an area with other campers close by, it doesn't do much for them. However we typically camp in National Forest, so there aren't too many people close by.

I have a Coleman 6250 with an 11 HP Briggs. I did the extra muffler, insulated and sound deadened the covers. It appears that a major portion of the noise is coming from the intake. The engine is not very quiet, but it is tolerable. I noticed that smoe of the Hondas have a baffle and extra insulation around the air cleaner, this possibly would tone that portion down some. I have thought about enclosing the unit and adding AC cooling fans to move the air. I haven't got that far yet.

I tried everything to quieten down a Generac. I even have a muffler you can have for the cost of shipping. It quietened down the exhaust, but the generator and crankcase were still noisy.

I go to races also. I spent $2,000 on a quiet generator. My neighbors all have noisy generators like you describe.

I had one neighbor that pointed his loud generator exhaust towards my bedroom. In the morning, he was trying to determine why his generator was pointing in a different direction. I also found out that the only reason he ran the generator all night was to charge his scanner.
