Actually, it has nothing to do with synthetic/non-synthetic (I have seen this statement and argument on many boards)... it is most likely a matter of convenience for DC... they only need one fluid for all their cars...
The +3 and +4 designation are actually for the cars DC makes... the 4XRX (45/46/47/48 RE/RH) series of truck trannies is very similar to the old time 727... they do not "need" special fluid, I know several running just fine on Dexron III. I ran my own 46RH and 47RE on regular Dexron III without problems... it does turn dark quicker, but it never gave problems... and both those trannies saw over 100k.
Just throwing that out. I did run LubeGuard from time to time in my 47RE, but on several occasions didn't because I couldn't find it... I put over 100k on that transmission with nothing but Dexron III. The transmission shop that rebuilt my 47RE claimed that the ATF+3 and +4 fluid actually caused seals to prematurely leak.
