I just cleaned out one of my storage lockers that I have had for years, and I found a 30lb can of R12 that I bought a while back when it was still available, the tank weights 14lbs. Is there still a market for R12 ? I no longer have any vehicles that use the stuff and don't need it anymore, and the only gauge set I have now is for r-134a.

You might check who is running fleets of older trucks- a friend of mine is in charge of a fleet of oilfield service trucks, most of them R & D model Macks. He uses a lot of R-12.

Hold on to it

till you get a good price for it, the price of r-12 has jumped big time so it should be worth a little to search out a buyer.

Good luck!

Craig

Since Captain Inteligence (me) loosened the wrong bolt when he was pulling out the after cooler for a little mod work He (I) would be interested in buying it from you. No one around here will re-charge R-12 even though they have it in their shop. Just so they can charge you for the re-fit.

Please let me know. Thank you

I will neither confirm nor deny that a TDR member has in his possession a 30 Lb canister of R=12 . The EPA and SWAT team will have to remove it from my cold stiff fingers-- if it in fact -- exists.

Buying a bunch of R-12 before the ban would have been a much better investment than the stock market. I know a few refrigeration guys that buy and sell it for hundreds of times more than the pre-ban price.

Go to ebay, do a search on R-12

Case of 12 one lb cans = $185. 00 with 4 hours left

One sealed 30 lb tank = $257. 00 with 3 days left!i

Lots of people biding on it also. People restoring old cars NEED THIS STUFF!

This stuff is worth its weight in gold.

What cracks me up is that the media says that R12 is no longer produced. Fact is we are making nearly as much as we ever did. The difference is that you cannot buy it in the US. You can buy it over the counter in Mexico though. Last I heard it was #2 most smuggled thing behind dope.

Thats a good price I was getting 650. 00 for a 30lb bottle... ... bought a pallet load of them a while back... .

Well the way I understand it you can use it but for us to sell it you have to show proof that you are licensed and have a recovery system..... until the stock is depleted of course then you have to use the cruddy r134... ... I heard that they were developing a refrigerent that suppose to be better than r12 and r134 but not bad for the o-zone... ...

r-12

From my understanding, Virgin R-12 is not produced anymore. It is supposed to be recycled after reclaimation. Once there is no more to reclaim (like that'll ever happen) there won't be any more to recycle, purify, ect. I have a 30 lb jug too. I am a licenced person. I can go and buy the 30 lb. jugs. I have to have a seperate licence to buy the little ones used on cars. Anyone want to sell theirs???

On a sepreate note, Sams club used to sell the 30lb r-22 jugs. just recently, they switched to the 134-a. Any of you guys still have r-22 at your local sams??

The R-12 does come into the US from our friendly neighbors to the south but it isn't the same quality as what we had here in the good ole US of A. Theirs has a high moisture content, so you could really screw up more than you gain by using the Mexican R-12. I also have a bunch of the 1# cans that someone would probably like to have. They have been just sitting up in the garage gaining in value and I don't even have a rig that uses it now.

Oh well.

Steve, I would be happy to take some of those off your hands. I don't know how much it takes to fill my truck but , if you would e-mail me we can set up a way for me to pay you for it and shipping to get it here.

Please let me know and I can give you my e-mail.

thanks

For what I charge for a lb of R-12, I am now telling people to do retro-fits. They cost about the same and if it leaks out some time down the road, it won't cost near as much to repair and re-charge it. I have done a few retrofits and they aren't that difficult. Of course, that is depending on the vehicle and the extent you need to go to do the job.

But then again, I'm the guy who put R-22 in my truck's R-134a system. So maybe you better not listen to me as I might be a dope.
