the earlier engines weren't really all that IMHO, but the 03+ engines are sick... forged crank, manley rods, forged pistons, etc. a bone stock bottom end will hold 700+hp easily.

As far as a new factory Ford motor being able to handle the HP you claim... LMAO! I worked in the plants that cast the block in Windsor Ont, and the final assembly plant in Brookpark OH (Cleveland Engine Plant), and the motor assembly in Lima OH. The motor is a joke, even the assembly guys have admitted that much. Sure they try, but they can only build a motor with the parts they get, most of which are from China and Mexico. And trust me, they are not to the highest quality, I have seen the tons of scrap first hand. And I have heard many an assembler bit-h about the poor quality of these imported parts, you know, the guys building the motors. And then there are the engineers that designed all of this stuff, which is another story. And yes, I do know a few of these guys personally.

I am talking about the "COBRA" engine Mike. Get your facts straight. The regular 4. 6 is not a performer. The older 5. 0 is a strong engine and can run the 500rwhp range. Past that, the block can crack. The 03-04 Cobra engine along with the SVT lightning engines can handle some HP. They can run up to 600-700rwhp. Sure you get some lemons and some guys over boost and time them but overall are "STRONG" performers. If you frequent the strip, and see what people are running first hand, then inform me. Until then, do not make blanket statement about the POS 4. 6 and include the Cobra engine as one of them. Just like Qzilla said, if you keep the A/F in a conservative ratio, without going to lean, they run "STRONG"!

I am a '03 Cobra owner as well as a '04. 5 600 CTD owner, so I have no biases in this matchup. I also work P/T in a very well respected Dyno / tuning shop for these cars and the Lightning trucks. I can tell you that 4th gear is good for almost 140 MPH on the dyno rollers, and that mine dead stock laid down 378 HP / 379 TQ dead stock with 238 miles on the odometer. This car now lays down 450 / 480 to the rear tires with a blower pulley, cold air intake and a cat-back exhaust and a good computer tune. The deepest I have been into this engine is a set of spark plugs.

I can also tell you that the stock '03-'04 Cobra engine will handle well in execess of 600 RWHP. That HP is reached with a blower change, the fuel system upgrades to support the fuel flow for that much HP and proper tuning. Also in that HP is larger fuel injectors, some modifications to the Mass Air flow sensor system and again proper tuning. BTW, this is with the stock exhaust manifolds in place. Put a little bit of Nitrous Oxide into the system and 650+ hp is available in a daily driver car that has never had the valve covers off the engine.

One thing that wasn't included in the math portion of the tread is the Cobra Driver's Reaction Time. If he has to leave off of a spotlight at the 1/4 mile mark, then it's going to be significantly slower than off a descending amber christmas tree.

We will race for 1 mile----he will give me a 1/4 mile head start

I think as you sit now, you will run out of top end and he will run you down. It will probably take him almost all of the 1-mile to catch you, but he probably will.

It would be scary, but here is what you do. Mosey over to BD-Power's web site and pick you up a Racer's Anti Defueler (RAD). It removes the top speed limiter. Think that truck will do 150+mph? With the RAD you will definitely find out. Again, scary... scary... scary on those 315s, but he will not be able to run you down and you will win for sure, guaranteed. And the RAD only costs $200, so you still walk away $300 richer and bragging rights. What is the max speed rating on those 315s? Got a good life insurance policy?
