I agree that racing on a crowded street is not safe. but I have also been in the position to race and me and the other vehicle was the only ones there at the time,so is that still such a bad thing being both drivers chose to put themselves in that position? keeping in mind I would never do so on a street that had places for others to pull into my path. I would say more don't bash the guy give him the benefit of the doubt that it was safe.

The majority of this forum is into bombing out their trucks in some way... ... ... ... . to go 55 on I-10 and lie about how good your fuel milage is???? 4:30 AM... ... ... go for it!

How fast will they go???

Anybody ever just stay on the gas (oops fuel) until it peaks out. I've had mine up to about 105mph or so until I chickened out, but it had plenty left in it. What's the top end?

WPeschel, thanks for the story, I wish you had a few more bombs... . As for the guys harassing you about the speed, dont let them bother you,let them start a new thread somewhere else,, and stop going off topic on this one.

i just sit here and shake my head at some of you. Do what you want with your truck, if someone wants to race dont sit hear and bash on him. Yes its dangerous and if he procedes to race and something happens then he will get his arse in a lawsuit so bad he'd lose everything. . Thats the risk you take. I got hit by a wreckless driver and i didnt have my truck for 1. 5 months! The kid who hit me was late to work so he proceded to speed 60 mph in a 20 mph zone when kids are just getting out of school  and when i turned out onto the street for some reason he was on the wrong side of the street and all i saw was smoke from him slamming on his brakes... Here is the point. . He was late to work so he drove WRECKLESS-LY to try to get to work... he took the risk and now he has 1) not graduated high school. . 2) lost his liscense for a LONG time 3) has a lawsuit coming his way 4) has parents that have pretty much dis-owned him 5) lost his job... I honestly feel bad for the kid but hey... he could have walked into work 10 minutes late and if his boss was a dick about it then owe well. . he would have been fired and would have got another job. . i guess thats how things happen. .

I race on the street every once and a while but i am careful and make sure if something happens i will only take my life away. . NOT anyone elses

just my . 02

I am not going to tell anyone not to race on the street, I think everyone know how irresponsable it is and how tragic the outcome can be. My beef is with those that endorse it.

Read my post above and think about how it would effect you.

As for your comment XCX

"I race on the street every once and a while but i am careful and make sure if something happens i will only take my life away. . NOT anyone elses"

This is by far one of the best so far, it makes me feel safer to know that people like you when you race know the future so they can take action such as slowing down before something bad happens. I'm sure if that kid that hit you had this power he would not have hit you.

You cannot predict what is going to happen next, not just racing but driving at a high rate of speed takes away any safety margin that the speed limits impose.

Pretty strong words, there, partner... . If you think 71 in a 70 is the same as 100 in a 70, you're showing (1. ) your lack of understanding of kinetic energy and (2. ) your ignorance of the law. You might want to compare the legal penalties for 1 over versus 30 over. At least here in Texas, the DPS certainly has no problem differentiating between these 2 scenarios!

 I'm speechless. Here of all places no less... .

Don't single this guy out!!!

I hope you all chastize everyone on here equally. Might I suggest you all here begin searching ALL THE THREADS concerning Smoke, Drag Racing, Horsepower, Noise, and ANYTHING ELSE you might not agree with, or that could hurt someone else and begin the flogging.

I was just wondering why they only made it to 100. I have had mine to 110 a couple of times. Had to weave through the traffic to get that speed though. Darn slow Fords. However after reading all these posts about how dangerous going fast is, I think I will start driving in first gear and 5mph. That should be real safe.

When my friends and I were in our 20's, we thought we were bulletproof - nothing could ever happen to us. One of those friends, Kerry Skidis, was street racing in Galveston in April 1973. He lost control, crashed, broke his neck and fractured his skull. It took him about 24 hours to die. Fortunately, he didn't take anyone else out with him.

So, that's his business, right? No innocent victims? Not quite. Kerry left a wife and infant son, and he didn't have life insurance. I watched Bitsy, his wife, struggle to make ends meet to raise Ryan who grew up without a father. They were the victims of Kerry's choice.

I'm 56 years old now. They say that with age comes wisdom to make right decisions. Unfortunately, that wisdom all too frequently is based on the experience of making wrong decisions - I've made (and seen) plenty of those in my life.

Take it for what it's worth.

While there are merits to both sides, running the speed up on a 3 lane wide limited access highway (interstate) in a low traffic situation is in my humble opinion not as dangerous as weaving through heavy traffic at 20 over, driving while intoxicated at any speed, talking on the phone at 20 over, putting on makeup, yada yada yada.

Sure people get killed, and he is increasing the risk with speed-it seems like he was being reasonable about it though-he did back off...

... in my youth a buddy had a 1984 Mustang GT-like 175 HP-was VERY fast back then... I passed 5 semis at once on a 2 lane going to the beach ... anyway, from a stoplight we were toying with this old 60's stake bed chevy-it was falling apart from the rust... through some city streets... but we backed off and turned off because they guy was obviously psychotic-we knew when to back off... I don't think he did...

Well about 300,000 people will die painful deaths from smoking this year. . Not counting 2nd hand smoke. I think I'll take my chances on the interstate with a heavy foot :D Life is to short to argue about this stuff especially when whole point of this thread was not to talk about the dangers of exceeding the speed limit on roads but simple that a guy raced a SS. Lets not make more out of it then it was intended. Thats my two pennies!!

I was sitting at a stop light yesterday and the cigarette smoke from the car in front of me was just rollin into my truck... second hand smoke is a serious killer!!!!!!!!!! I might get cancer now. Can we start a thread about that?

Entirely your choice. Please have the common courtesy, however, to ensure that you don't take anyone else out with you or leave anyone behind when you go.

Perhaps. There's another bit of wisdom I learned over 56 years - no matter how fast you are (or think you are), there's always someone badder than you.

Rusty

there's always someone badder than you.

That goes for bar fights too! Sooner or later we all get our clocks cleaned!

This is one messed up thread and I am done with it.

Edit, As a note, let's just say I understand where Rusty is coming from. I was young once (I ain't too old yet) and I made stupid mistakes, but as I have gotten older, matured, married, and now an infant daughter, I find myself making fewer stupid decisions and stupid mistakes. It is called growing up and with luck, most of us do it. Peace!:p
