Hi guys,

First post here, would like to start by saying that this site ROCKS! I really enjoy reading al the posts and to learn from them.

While I was reading about the P7100 tweaks I was playing with my own 160 pump to see where all the stuff is located and to see how they work. It's from a '95 engine that I'm building for a '81 blazer.

I noticed that the rack does not travel freely forward when I pull the throttle linkage(with shutdown lever up). I have to help it a little to get it moving, same thing when I release the throttle. The rack spring does not push the rack back by itself. Is this normal for a pump that's not turning??

Last time this pump pumped is at least one year ago, but it should be OK.

Thanks for any help/comments.

Hi DSchell, welcome. It sounds normal to me, at least traveling forward. When I push down on the pedal of my '96 and '98 when they're not running the initial travel is very stiff.

Thanks!!!

Thanks for your replies and the welcome!

It's just that... ... it doesn't feel right. I'm not sure if I explained the situation right the first time:

I have the AFC housing off and the torqueplate removed. I'm now looking into the governor. The shut off lever is up. When I pull the throttle, I can see a spring trying to push the rack forward to turn the plungers, but it's just not happening! If I take out the rack end plug at the front of the pump and pull the rack, then it slowly moves forward. Same thing for releasing, rack does not return unless I help it.

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough the first time, but is this also OK for a non running pump?

Thanks again
