sorry to be the fly in the ointment... especially as a newbie, but i disagree with everyone.
i can't remember the name of the system (yes a system), but i am looking through my old Roundels (BMW car club) as my girlfriend and i were discussing this very topic last weekend.
there is a detector/laser jammer that the Roundel tested (some of those bmw drivers like to drive fast... . so i've heard
#ad
) it is a regular radar detector with all the usuall bands. it is also a laser detector... but where is diverges from all others is is in it's ability to throw out a pulse of light that jams the laser gun of the police. it gives you about 5 seconds to slow down as the laser gun resets itself.
these aren't manufacturer's claims... the magazine tested it. the only drawback i can see is that the front and back of the dodge are so big that it would require two laser detectors/receivers/receptors on the front and two on the back (one unit in the car) and two light pulse emmitters (assuming you want protection at both ends).
the way the lasers work is they bounce light off something shiny on vehicles. . license plates, headlights etc. and the receiver/receptor can only be so far from one of these tag points that's why a ram would require two on each end.
the system comes with one car unit, one receiver/receptor and one light emmitter. you can buy additional receptor/reciever and light emmitters.
the way the article said that this system got away with what they do is that there is no law restricting the emmision of light.
i promise i will continue to look and repost my findings as to the name of the company. finding the product review is a bit of a stretch at this point.
by the way i don't know if i will buy one. my girlfriend definitely wants one. i do my speeding on motorcycles early on sunday mornings. HOWEVER, if i get a viper in a couple of years i will ABSOLUTELY get one of the buggers!
just my two cents (seems more like two bits, doesn't it?)
