My 03 just started leaking 70000 on the ticker. Not sure on the build date but it is leaking form the right area I'll have to go check it out.

This is the cause of my leak rubbed a hole in it nicely. build date 3-03. mine was sitting against it all the time. :{

This is odd. My build date is 2/03 and inspection didn't reveal anything in contact with my radiator! Maybe I need to examine closer?

This is a great thread, but every time it comes up I start having visions of being stranded with (very expensive) coolant running out all over the ground. :rolleyes:

Yeah, you should've spent 150k, then I'm sure you'd get a great vehicle with very high quality, just like this. :-laf
I missed this post. . thats hilarious Ryan! Reminds me of GM issuing the TSB on 5. 3's for engine knock. . says not to worry and its normal. Hrmm wasn't there when new though, or when they increased the free play spec on idler arms once it was discovered they were manufactured with too much play to begin with. :-laf

Sometimes I get annoyed hearing people always saying things like "I paid $45k for this truck, it should be a model of biblical perfection!".

Fact: if man made it, it's imperfect, independent of price. ;)

And old man once told me, "If it's got t*ts or wheels, it'll give you trouble. "

I haven't been able to disprove that statement. ;)

My local dealer said if it had happened 1200 miles ago when I was still in their 3 month 3000 mile warranty they would have covered it but he said they would still get me one for around 425 down from the list of 490. I'm still looking for a cheaper option. Chrysler said since there is no recall or tsb that there is nothing they can do. I do know it is a bad enough of a problem that the local dealership normally keeps these radiators in stock.

Nice fix and photo, Matt400, thanks for that. Mine was built 03/2003, everything looked ok, only 31 thou, but I put the hose piece that anyway, it looked close up in there.

Even though mine is an '05, reading this makes me real glad that I got that 7/100,000 $0 deductible warranty. If I hadn't, I know I'd be kicking myself in the butt eventually, and DC and I wouldn't be getting along too well. :-{}

I checked mine this weekend, and while it wasn't worn through, my radiator did have a shiny spot on where it was obviously being rubbed! I slit a piece of fuel line and clipped it over the bottom of the fan shroud to pull it away from the radiator. As it has many times before, the TDR website saved me a lot of problems down the road.

Yep- it went over 50 deg today- went out to the barn the check... pretty serious rubbing going on down at the very bottom, and it looks like the harness cover may have juuuuusssst been touching the core. But, thanks to the TDR group, I may have averted catastrophy. FTR-late 02 build, 13K miles.

Thanks for that photo Matt
