Rail relief valve going bad????

Now I'm thinking about capping the rail. Just wondering about your experiences, opinions, and issues if any. Should I buy a cap, make one using a pipe plug, or wait untill a better valve is made. Thanks for your input, Nick. :)

Well, last night went to pass and took off as normal- then it was just like I lost 60 or so hp. Thought that I broke something  , truck wasn't making as much power, not building as much boost, boost+power fluctuating under full throttle, but otherwise running fine. I got to Mom's house and visited then when I left truck ran great all the way home, no problems at all :) . I had a code a long while ago that had to do with rail pressure if I remember correctly- or the transducer(thats with the tst- only I'm running smarty now). This time I didn't throw any codes. From what I've found doing searches thought that the relief valve might be culprit. This also got me kinda curious about capping the rail or buying an aftermarket valve. Any ideas?

I had the P0191 code several times, it is about low rail pressure. I did not suffer any power loss like you did. I think that sometimes these valves stick open or are weak and in essence leak/bleed off rail pressure. Just my thoughts, no real proof. I bought the kit with the plug and plumbing stuff. I have not installed it, just keeping it in the truck in case I have a problem on the road and loss of rail pressure. I too am thinking about getting an aftermarket valve. My dealer replaced mine twice.

It felt like it was stuck open to me, its the first time that I noticed it- and seemed to be the only thing that made sense at the time. If it keeps up I guess that I'll cap or plug it and wait for an aftermarket valve. I'm surprised that there isn't one out yet??? Thanks for the help, Nick.

JHardwick.

I noticed in your sig you list a capped relief valve. Are you now switching back and installing the relief valve? (Actually that seems the obvious as you bought one). Have you experienced something with the cap that concerns you and is motivating you to re-install the valve?

I obtained the cap kit, kind of an insurance policy in case mine sticks open and I have to cap it to get rail/fuel pressure so the truck will run in the intrim until I could get the valve R&R.

I have wondered what the long-term effects to other parts of the fuel system down line might be if I put the kit on and just left it, not bothering with an R&R of the valve. My truck is stock, no boxes or performance additions, nothing that would crank-up the fuel demands or supply.

Well, I do 10,000+ miles a MONTH, and just decided that my blocked off relief valve would be a good spare.

Every part I take off because I think it may be going south, becomes a spare part until proven faulty ... ... ... ... ... ..... a shakey part may get me to the next stop.

Might help me>>>

My truck acts like it starving for fuel no real pickup and go power. . Have had codes on low rail pressure and also one about intake heater?? My friend got a 06 (now given 2 different models) his truck is daylight and dark differenc to mine. . His has tons of pulling power where my just lags along. Do you think my problem maybe with the rail pressure valve?? Just had in tank pump installed when i got truck in april. Always been this way since. . Never had or drove a 3rd gen truck till then, just thought that was the way it was. Until my friend got one and WOW what a difference. . Any IDEAS?

Maybe valve related- I think that the DRBIII can monitor rail pressure, I don't know for sure. So, the dealer could verify your suspisions or you could put a rail pressure guage on it. Someday I'd like to get the rail guage. There shouldn't be that much difference  , just my . 02. Nick

Hi

Could some of you CR experts give me a hand or better yet, your knowledge? The CR pressure relief valve has a history of failure. I have been looking on the web for a few days to find out why.

This is what I've heard. (1) The spring weakens and looses its force (2) The seat and poppet become etched (3) The poppet tip breaks off

What have you guys experienced? Have you done any testing on the CR relief valve?

Thanks for helping me out.

Rob
