Yeah and I don't think they leave the sand in there! C'mon on klenger. Maybe it's really fine sand. Would that hurt anything?

So at WOT, will it just bang up against the fuel shutoff? What RPM would be maintained? Somebody go start their truck and find out for me... heh heh.

3500 RPM is the magic number :D When it's warm it stays there as rock solid as it idles at 750RPM.

Just got the call..... My truck is going in Tuesday evening. Dealer said he needs the truck for two days, "incase the failure exists, we overnight parts and install them before giving the truck back"

Here's hopin mines okay.

HI GUYS ,

My truck is new 2004. 5 2500 and is shipping to me as we speak , i have checked the link on page two and it does not show up as a recall on the dodge site , i have not heard from my dealer , should i be worried ? . your advice would be appreciated

regards conn

its not the test i am worried about, its the grease on interior, the reflashes you didnt ask for, the scrapes and dings. I have not seen even 1 bad core hole plug reported by any members yet. Does anyone know what made them call for this test in the first place? Were trucks blowing up or did somebody notice something wrong after 5000 motors went out? Inquering minds want to know.

I got a call from my dealer today. Service manager said a special policy had come up involving checking freeze plugs that included my truck. I set up an appointment for Monday at 9:00 and nothing was said about leaving the truck to perform the test. Mine has 4600 miles, 1018 of them rolled up on Thursday going from Cullman, AL. to Shreveport, LA. and back. (16 hrs. 45 min) I'll see what happens Monday and post the results. By the way, 17. 8 MPG on the way out, and 15. 7 coming back. (Right foot got heavy!):D

I was told today that the problem with the plugs is because of a manufacture defect in the plugs. Some of the plugs have had a tendency to crack or split when installed. All 600's built after March 15th have the corrected plugs.

It still amazes me that American manufacturing still manages to pull off these boo boos. I know some of you will say - built by humans, mistakes are made. 'Tis true, but for a freeze plug??:--) C. mon, this is NOT high tech, and is completely UNACCEPTABLE on an expensive (what, $10,000) engine. Period.

I performed a self test yesterday morning... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... .....

getting on 101 at the Windsor on-ramp and blowing a new powerstroke off the road. LOL

Delivered 1-31-04 and 8300 miles no problems yet and 17+ mpg in mixed driving. :p

Didn't Cummins just go over the 1,000,000 mark on engines made for DC. I have not heard of that many failures of this engine. Pretty good track record IMHO. Yes they are human, but they DO make the best engine available in a pickup today.

That said ..... I hope the one I have on order is not affected.

Should state engines built after March 15th, not trucks. My truck was built on March 23rd and it was on the hit list.

Hmmm, I wish Chrysler knew this, or I wouldn't be taking my truck in for the test on Monday. My engine plate has a 3-16 build date.

"Freeze plugs" , "Soft plugs" and "Core hole plugs" are different terms for the same part, they are all the same thing ;)

Yes they are, I just found that out and was going to post it. "Core Hole Plugs" and "Soft Plugs" sound more worrysome then "Freeze Plugs", I think.

Just got a call from my dealer this Friday. I guess I will make an appointment for the test. Build date was 2/27/04. Mileage on the truck is just under a 1000. Other than this test,I'm pretty happpy with the truck.

I'm actually debating whether or not I'm going to drop it off tomorrow for testing. Just completed an almost 1000 mile round trip, where the truck was flogged, but good. I examined all freeze, plugs, etc. No weepage, nada. ZIP. Truck now has 2200 miles.

We just got back home towing our 6600 lbs camper to Asheville NC. Four miles of 6% uphill grade on the way up. I would think if it was going to fail, it would fail under such a load. Over 1200 miles now.

BTW, it did an AWESOME job towing.

David, are you still going to take it in? I'm going to take it tomorrow, but I'm going to insist that they confirm with the DC tech line that on my truck, now with 2200 miles, if they should just inspect. It would be MUCH more convenient than dropping it off, as this dealer (where I purchased it) is quite a ways away from me.
