I would be carefull not to over react to stuff you hear on the TDR. Most of the trucks have no problems. Note that no one here has complained about coolent leaks, so I suspect that most will pass w/o any trouble.



I thought I found my 1st defect on my truck yesterday. I was on my way to work and there was this rattle that sounded like it was comming from behind the dash. It was driving me crazy, but I couldn't seem to find the source of it by holding the various parts of the dash. The rattle ended up being the ice in my diet pepsi glass in the cup holder. Yea, ... the truck is that quiet.

I talked to my service guys yesterday, and all tests are no being performed on the trucks BEFORE they get sold.



They did have to call 5 customers who already took delivery back in for the test. So far, none of the trucks we have have failed. I hope this is a good sign.

SKargo, do you have a VIN list for just those trucks sold at your dealership, or a general VIN list for all affected trucks?

I just got a call a few minutes ago from my service advisor saying I need to bring my truck in for the issue. I HATE them touching my truck, being so new. They'll get their greasy hands all over my grab handle and steering wheel.



I also don't like the idea of my engine being run at WOT for three minutes considering how careful I've been following the break-in procedures. If, God forbid, they have to replace my engine, I guarantee they'll scratch the **** out of the engine compartment, front bumper cover, hood, fenders, etc. They don't have the luxury of installing the engine into the frame only like during assembly, and they certainly don't care as much.



I know this is better than the engine losing coolant and seizing up on me, but I just have to rant. This absolutely stinks!

Cummins response to freeze plug issue

My truck went in yesterday and was to be tested today for the freeze plug issue. However, I called Cummins' Customer Assistance at 1-800-343-7357 and was informed that my truck with 1300 miles should be fine without the test. A helpful fellow by the name of Jerry Burton helped me and he indicated the new trucks essentially with "zero" miles need the test to simulate heat cycling to quickly induce the failure but trucks with some miles should be fine. The assistant service manager was receptive to this and indicated he would pursue the matter and get more information. Anyway, I refused the test, well at least until some more information becomes available. I'll return to the dealer this afternoon and find out what his latest news is.

I also called Cummins and was told basically the same thing--that at my mileage of ~900 miles, I would most likely not suffer the failure being reported. I'm going to talk to my service tech as well.

Got my truck back today.

Everything went fine. Absolutely no leaks!

Just called my dealer. They say this issue is for the brand new ones that have little to no mileage. Since mine has 3300 on the clock. . said I would be fine...

Maybe a little clarifaction if not already clareified (sp),



a rapid responce recall is intended for auto that are on the lot and have not been sold, most of the time we catch all the problems before they make it to customers hands... sometimes we miss a few though...



This is the reason most websites will not be able to pull up the issue by vin,etc



I asked my service manager and he said we had no trucks that were affected so we never even got a notice about it...



this is no different than the other dozen "silent recalls" (before customer hands) i have seen, but this one seemed to be blown out of proportion. Out of 40 trucks (vins) that we have seen, dodge said we had NONE that we had to check (the means we sold 40 trucks and not 1 was affected)



I hope this was a rare case and that it was on just a few days on cummins build schedule

Just got the call from my dealer. Truck is going in on Monday to be tested on Tuesday.

My service writer is pretty adamant about doing the test, even though I've got as many miles as I have. He said he highly recommended that I bring it on in.



So, I guess I'll submit.

Beings my truck is on the "list", I left it at the dealer last night and they tested it this morning. It passed the test with no leaks. I too at the option of not testing it but felt it better to know for sure then wonder.

So at WOT, will it just bang up against the fuel shutoff? What RPM would be maintained? Somebody go start their truck and find out for me... heh heh.

PEACHY!

I just found out for sure my truck needs to be pressure tested! Even though it has 1200 miles on it, and I have pulled 350 miles with it. I spoke with Cummins and they said it should not be an issue but, Star wants it checked anyway. I know that running it wide open won't hurt the motor immediately but, I DO NOT like the idea of running a cold motor that hard! What about long term affects of that type of operation? I DO NOT treat my equipment that way in the first place! I love this truck and everything else is perfect, but this is a real thorn in my side.
