I'm right in the middle of a transmission service and am stumped. Going by the Dodge Service Manual, i'm adjusting the bands and changing the fluid. The problem is with the my understanding of the manual. Here it is...
(My truck is a 1998 12v)
Under the section; FRONT BAND ADJUSTMENT. .
the book says to "loosen the band adjusting screw locknut 3-5 turns, and tighten the adjusting screw to 72 inch/lbs and retighten the locknut.
Just below the previous instructions, there is a section for the 46re transmission and the 47re transmission. Under the 47re, it states to "back off the front band adjusting screw 1 7/8 turns" and tighten the locknut to 30 ft/lbs.
Yikes! which one do I perform?? I guess I need to know if the front band adjustment is performed by torquing the screw IN, or by backing it out.
Really need some clarification here guys. I'm down to driving the F*** if I cant get the cummins service tonight.
Thanks, Steve.
