Wheel bearing grease

I have 2003 Dodge dually truck, and I am interested in how to install the 7 pin wiring in the truck box for my 5th wheel trailer. I DON'T LIKE the wire hanging over the tailgate. The dealer tells me there is a wire laying under the truck box with waxed tips on it; already to solder. BUT it is not there, I cannot find it.

What do you suggest?

JNK, its gotta be there, look again, if you ordered the towing pkg than you get the recepticle and the wires are there, also do what I did and move the female recepticle up inside the bed, I drilled a hole and mounted mine on the side behing the drivers wheel well, this will eliminate the wire over the tailgat deal.

cheers, Kevin

I added a 2nd 7-pin socket in the lower rear area of the driver's side inner bed wall. I just tapped into the wiring harness going back to the 7-pin socket mounted on the receiver hitch, soldered all connections and sealed them. Before drilling into the bed wall, make sure you have enough depth behind the inner wall to accept the 7-pin socket you select - with wiring attached!

I don't know about the wiring color coding for a 2003, but this old 1996-vintage TSB was still good for my 2002.

My '02 has a hole in the bed for the wiring to run through, from the factory. I can't beleive it's not on the '03 as well. stand in the bed between the wheelhouses, facing the cab, look down and to the right, you should see a little rubber grommet that looks like a smaller version of the tie-down cover, that's your wiring hole. Note: you will have to remove your bedliner to see this!

I am getting ready to install the hitch onto my new 02 this weekend. I will have to look for this plug, but thinking about it, if its on the face of the bed thats not a very good place to put it.

I drill a hole in the side of the bed, just ahead of the tailgate area for the connector.

Is there a place in the wire harness in the 02 for splicing in this connector? Last time I skinned and soldered the wires to the harness, sure would be easier if there was a place in the wires made for doing this.

You misunderstand. You are standing in the bed facining the cab, the plug is down by your left foot just ahead of the wheel house.

thanks, I will check that out. Any chance there is a place to tap into the wire harness besides just cutting into it?

On both my '95 and my '00 trucks I had the hitch installer just install a 7-wire extension cord.

These cords come with a standard female end that can be mounted in the left rear corner of the bed (or anywhere else that it will reach to). The male end is routed down to the standard trailer plug at the hitch.

To use the bed plug, I just plug the extension cord into the plug at the hitch. Actually, it is always plugged in unless I am pulling a trailer that needs to use the plug at the hitch.

It's a cheap, simple solution that doesn't require messing with your truck's wiring.
