My auto trans shift points have increased approximately 5 MPH. To try and fix the problem i replaced the pressure sensor and the pressure solonoid and put a new Throttle cable and adjusted bands. This resulted in no change in the shift points. Noticing my front band was worn, i had the trans rebuilt. Still no change in shift points. when i start up each time i use the truck it wont shift out of low untill about 18-20 Mph. With a 410 rear end the rpm is up there. It does improve slightly on the second shift. Does anyone have any idea on how to return to the lower shift pts like 10 - 13 MPH out of low. Is the problem a pressure adjustment? Norman Bean Yukon, OK

It sounds like your throttle valve cable is out of adjustment. I just rebuilt mine and it stayed in the proper place but you might have to adjust it. It determines shift points based upon throttle position. I don't remember where I saw the procedure but it is simple and quick, you might try a search on here. It connects to the drivers side of the trans, it's a black cable that is attatched where the shift lever is and runs up to the APPS. You have to remove the cover and take the slack out of it if I remember correctly.

To adjust the throttle valve cable it is on the back af the apps. It has a light grey clip on it. The clip slides toward the driver side of vehilce to release the lock. before you start put a mark on the sheath of the cable where it goes into the clip so you have a reference point to return to if it doesn't help. Slide the sheath inward toward the apps to decrease speed at which trans will up shift and pull sheath of cable out towards back of truck to increase shift point. It only has to move a small distance there is only about 3/8 - 1/2 inch of movement in it. But be sure to mark a starting point this is very important.

I put on a new throttle cable and adjusted properly (per Service Manuel) and it did not fix problem.

i even tried some plus and minus adjustments which still did not help. shorter made it down shift too soon and longer just made worst

try replacing the speed sensor. my transmission would not shift out of first unless you backed out of the throttle. I messed with the tv cable with no luck then found a post on tdr about replacing the speed sensor and tried it out and that fixed the problem. I don't recall exactly where it's at on the transmission but I do remember that it was on the drivers side and it was 40 bucks at the dodge dealership.

Speed Sensor Replacement

replacement fixed the shift problem and shifts much smoother now. thanks for the information sure appreciate it. The old sensor had metall shavings attached to the head. this may have contributed to the problem. My cost here in Yukon was 29. 62 including taxes. Thanks again

Yep I had the same problem, $39. 00 for a new sensor. But your wanting the shift to be below 18mph... My Gear Vendor, when on manuel setting automatically shifts on at 18mph when the gear selector is in low gear (1st). So if it shifted earlier than 18mph you would loose the benefit of the GV.
