Ok so I ditched my auto in favor of the 6 speed. Hated my auto, thought stick was the only way to go. When I test drove the truck (55,000 miles) no problems. Ive only put about 3,000 miles on it since the end of May. when shifting from 2nd to 3rd (especially when trans is cold) it will just slip right into 3rd, grinding as it goes in. Like it never hits synchro. When it finally warms up, sometimes it will be like pushing your hand through concrete, so hard to get it to go in. Other times it will shift fine. I have to get it going fast in 2nd so I have enough time to play around and shift into 3rd without grinding the gears. Its really starting to bother me. Dont know if others have experienced this. Will my 7 year 70,000 powertrain cover this??

When did you put in the short shift?

I would pull the short shift and take in to the dealer, it should be coverd.

The NV5600 is a pretty "trucky" transmission. I had four 3rd gens with autos and wanted more control in the mountains where I live. I drove several NV5600 trucks and decided if I had to get one of those I would rather have the auto. I tried and bought a G56 truck and other than the short OD gear, I love it. Shifts super easy, lighter clutch effort, just all around a whole lot better than I found the NV to be. Sorry that doesn't really help, too bad you didn't find the problem before you bought it.

Stock hydro's are weak in general. I advise you change your fluid to Redline MTL synthetic and install a set of South Bend Heavy Duty hydraulics.

It will improve your drivability in my opinion.

Keep the fluid changed every 20k miles (and overfill by a quart).

Thanks guys, yes I did change the fluid and I overfilled. I used Mopar Manual Trans fluid. There were a lot of gold colered flakes in old fluid, small ones, fit on tip of ink pen-size. I have a hard time beleiving a fluid change or upgraded hydraulics will fix the problem in ONE gear. I ts only when I shift into third. All other gears are fine or what I consider normal.

Anyway, dealer said they would look at it Monday, Im still covered by the 7-70, with $100 deductible. Dont know what they will do though, Im sure they wont open the trans and try and repair it. And even if I was so lucky as to get a new gear box, these arent easy to come by, are they?

Mine did the exact same thing. I tried the Redline MTL and it helped. The last time I changed the fluid in the transmission I went with Amsoil. Much better shifting, no grinding, less noise etc. witht he Amsoil lube.

That's just my experience. Good luck.

Whats the exact name of the Amsoil lube? I wish that stuff wasnt so hard to get ahold of. I need to order a bypass filter set up may get the lube too. Still anxious to see what dealer says. Thanks

Yes, but dont you have to sign up to be some kind of distributer in order to get this?

No. You can buy direct at retail or you can sign up to be a preferred customer for $20 a year, which may pay for itself in discounts over straight retail prices. It will definitely pay for itself if you're going to buy a large quantity of stuff, like oil, bypass, other filters, gear lube, transmission fluid. They also have (or had ?) a trial preferred customer for $10.

Read the info on the Amsoil Web site. Its got application charts, amount to use,how to pay for product and so on. Then Big Brown delivers what you buy in 24 to 48 hours as a rule. Even to your door!

Oil??

I would make sure you have the correct transmission oil in it before going to the dealer. There are many trans oils that will not work properly with the syncros.

See previous post, I have the factory recomended fluid in the trans, for just such an occasion. Hopefully dealer makes it right, Ive only put 5k on it since I bought it used from them. Its been getting worse and worse.

Unfortunate to say this, but probably the reason it was traded...

Yeah and as always didnt do it while I was test driving, Thats why I dont go to Vegas. They said the guy had a bad u-joint, they couldnt get the joint in for at least a week, so he traded the truck in on a 6. 7  Gonna change my user name to Sucker:-laf
