Okay gang, maybe yall can help;
After I send my truck slithering through the clay pit, I need to check the rear brakes. My service manual tells me that I don't need to remove the axle shafts to take off the drum. However, every full-floater I've seen before needed the shafts pulled... HELP! How do I remove the Drums to check the brakes (on a 2000 DANA 70)?
Thanks gang. Josiah

Hey BigU, I just had mine off a few days ago and although mine is a '96 I don't think the Dana 70 has changed. Mine were rusted on pretty tight but rapping between the studs with a ball peen hammer loosened it up fine. The drums are held on by 3 clips on the studs that must be removed first. The axle shafts do not have to be removed. Many people don't bother to replace the clips since the wheels hold the drum in place anyhow.
