If you thought the truck was going to come with rear disks you should have looked under the back when you bought it. also the window sticker would stake if it had disks.

thermo , when did you buy the truck ? if you've had it close to a year there were no 2001 brochures out when you got it , also all you guys happy that you have 4 wheel discs ... just you wait #ad
.

i hate buying the first year of anything new , the 4 wheel disc included , it took them 6 years to fix the front brake problemm , what makes you think they will get the new rear setup right the first time ???? i hope for all you guys sake i'm wrong , and i'll say so . but for now i'm happy with my, as far as i'm concerned, best year built to date , 2000 LIMITED EDITION , only thing missing is the moulding on the bed sides . i have everything else and i'm bombed so who cares about the HP loss from stock with my auto ,plus i don't have to worry about the computer powering down when my foot is on the firewall for a shift ... wwwwweeeeeeee ... .

Don't bother fighting it,DC has it's butt covered legally. The brochure has disclaimers about equipment availability all over it.

Hey mopar,my Ram is also a 2000 Limited Edition. I ordered one in Aug '99 and didn't get one 'til December. That wait spans the entire production year!

Mopar Muscle... . 2000 Limited Edition... . I like that. i haven't thought of it that way.
I am actually glad I don't have disks out back. I remember the days of working on the late 80's-early 90's chevy's that had rear disks that didn't work. Calipers would freeze on the sliders and the pistons would rot in the housing. Drum brakes are pretty much bullet proof, with the exception of the "auto-adjusters" they rarely ever work as designed.

MikeR, D/C might have it's hiney covered legally, but in the court of public opinion, that loin cloth is looking pretty skimpy #ad
LOL

Seriously, I think a lot of customers are going to catch on sooner or later they've been shirked of some basic appointments. D/C probably had a brainstorming session with the bean counters and cheapened up their entire lineup. Customers are going to remember stuff like this the next time they good to purchase a new vehicle, and be less inclined to go with D/C. In an economy where vendors bend over backwards to attract customers, D/C is cutting their own throat.

if i remember correctly, 2001 trucks built after a certain date came with the 4 wheel discs. when we ordered our new 2001's there was no mention of a brake change. our salesman only told us of the ho cummins option, and me and my service tech that was in on the discussion both said "high output" whats the difference? it came as a suprise to even the service mgr. the saleman went on to read that the ho option was only available in the 3500 manual trans trucks. well it all goes to show that sometimes even dc doesnt let their own dealers have the straight story. i have seen after about 15000 miles on our 2001. 5's that the brakes are far superior to what was offered in earlier models. when i get into one or our 98 or 99 trucks, its very noticable. ive also noticed that the previous model trucks have better trim and paint detail than our st louis trucks. if i had ordered a truck with 4w discs i would sure demand to have it, but it should tell you something that dodges have always had front brake problems [disc] so your drum rears might end up being a good thing.

When I ordered my dually in April 2001 the dealer told me I would get whatever they grabbed off the shelf. . you might get rear drums and you might get discs, you might get Goodyear tires and you might get Michelin.
I got Michelins and I got discs when she arrived 5/15/01.

01. 5's also now come with 4wheel ABS in the 2500. Didn't have 4wheel ABS for the drum model.

2. 5" superlift, power steering, 4. 88gears. Mobiweld welder and other neat stuff.

When I was looking at ETH/DEE trucks on the dealer lots just a few months ago, I came across several with drum brakes. What I found was that Dodge came out early with the 2001 and then half way through the year there was a price increase and several small changes like the rear disc brakes and dropping the plastic cladding on the tailgate. One truck I looked at was an early one with drums and the sticker had an option for 4 wheel anti-lock brakes for $499. When I looked in the 2001 brochure it stated 4 wheel anti-lock disc brakes. They had to update their brochures. One reason for the upgrade in brakes was to step up to Chevy's rear disc brakes.

Pulled out my sale doc's. my 2001. 5 was assembled 5/19/00. The window sticker states that it was 2000 model year. The sticker does not indicate that the truck has ABS and disk brakes all four wheels. But it does.
I was very specific about getting the disks on the rear as I feel they are easier to maintain and repair. MHO
