I am planning on doing the swap tomorrow and have purchased all stock pieces to do the swap. Are there any hints or tips that would be helpful in the swap process? It looks like to replace the backing plates I need to pull the axle shafts, is this correct? Is the proprtioning valve in the brake line itself because I can't see any valve at all, just a flex line from hard line to axle. Any help would be appreciated. BTW the truck is a 2000 with ABS. Thanks.

Yes, to pull the backing plates, you will have to pull the axles and remove the hubs. I think the proportioning or combination valve is located under the hood. bg

one guy that did the swap for the stock items had to redo the flanges on the axle. After the drums are off and stuff, the new bacing plates and brackets are not the same. he had to cut off flanges, smooth it then he cut and manufactured new flanges (like a triangle with the hole for the axle and 3 bolts) for the axle and welded them up. then the stock items worked. The only other way to do this is to get a '02 axle housing and bolt up the brakes that way.

I did the EGR conversion. It was not too bad and they work very well.

A little too late for the different backing plate info. I took everything apart and guess what? The flange is way different. What a let down. :{ I had heard that from 2000 and up the disk brakes would be a direct bolt on operation. I guess since I have a very early 2000 (built Aug 99) I still have the old style flange. I don't really want to replace the flanges so I guess their will be some brand new parts for OEM disk conversion in the classifieds soon. :( PS Thanks for the replies.
