Move to Los Angeles, why don't you, JyRO, the L. A. P. D. will treat you like a King if you try that crap with them.
Unless somebody in Michigan shoots your lights out(and your truck's rear lights too!) before you get moved. #ad
Wouldn't wish that on the truck, though.

I've had pretty good luck with LEO's. I got stopped going 75++ in a 35 zone on Federal property by a State trooper. He let me go with a warning. Good thing for me, at the time I was a Federal employee, and this would have been "bad ju ju" to say the least.
I know quite a few troopers, so this couldnt hurt.
Other times I got pulled over was for mostly speeding. Most of the time I got a warning. I cant say for sure if it was because of the way I acted. I got pulled over mostly at night, and I kept my hands visable, no sudden moves etc. etc. or if it was because of the people I "know".
I'm also an associate member of the FOP.
MOST of the time, if you treat them OK, they'll treat you the same. Like most other things, there are "bad apples".
I did get one of these give me a ticket. He lied in court and all. The judge was trying to get him to cover this up,(putting words in his mouth) but it was obvious to everyone there.
Takes all kinds.....

Hey 50 pullovers and only 4 citations, sounds like the cops were pretty cool to me.

I can honestly say I've earned every ticket I got stopped for. #ad

..... not that I condone it, but d**n that magneto caper was funny!

Vaughn, you're too much!

Briar, the King reference was too funny as well.

i wasnt going to reply to this, but just couldnt resist. in the 15 years ive been a law man, i would have to say that 75 % of whether i write or warn on a stop is "customer" attitude. given this, just let me say there mr jyro, that should you frequent my jurisdiction, im quite sure that you will be adding #5 to your citation list. given the way you drive and such, im convinced that when we lock horns, ill walk away quite pleased and you will be pissin and moaning. nuff said.

JyRO,

I think you must realize by now that this is NOT the place to bad mouth cops. As far as I'm concerned they are not payed nearly enuff for the nasty parts of their job.

I will admit that every ticket I've ever received I earned. Also I've been helped a few times when I have broken down in some remote place. It was nice to sit in a warm patrol car one evening when my old car quit 20 miles from the last town and it was 18 degrees out.

They should not have to deal with people with smart mouths.

To the GLTDR: I'd like to reply to what's been posted above, but, I don't seem to be able to create understandable humor, so I won't try that. I wasn't saying the group of you guys were BAD, it wasn't about the GLTDR group. It was something different, but I won't re-hash all that.

I'll quit trashing cops, they've got a difficult job for the most part and I do agree they're under paid. 2 things though, 1. I don't make it a practice to be a smart mouth to cops, hence not having too many more tickets than I have from all the pull overs. 2. I only got smart with'em when I knew they had no business pulling me over and couldn't do anything. No loud pipes, no erratic driving/speeding, no criminal activity, nothing suspicious... . nothing. Besides, wussy gas Chebby Suburbans don't have enough power to do anything illegal.

Just a couple of the last few incidents have really got to me. And the last incident was the real kicker. It didn't have anything to do with traffic or driving, but I won't get into it. I'll wrap this cop thing up with this post.

The best solution I've found for tailgaters?

Big Super Swampers and no mud flaps #ad
!

If that's not enough, just drift over to the shoulder and spray a little gravel (always available here in Colorado) #ad

I just wanted to say one thing. This is not to ruffle anyone's feathers but, courtesy IS a two way street. I've been pulled over many times. Mostly as a teenager. The cops in my home town were jerks. For example, my girlfriend and I were broke down on the side of the road in Jan. One hour and three patrol cars passing us by later, we were finaly helped. But not by them. That is just one example of many. Enough of that.
The ones in the neighboring town were awesome. They were the type of people that would give your car a jump start on the side of the road without thinking twice. They would give you a ride to your house if you needed help. These people were the type that earned respect by being polite. Not by demanding it.
My point is this. Some people deserve the treatment they get from the police. Some don't.
You guys are right. It is a thankless job. A job done by some of the most under appreciated people around. But, IMO, that doesn't justify the hostility.
Just my $. 02

18 or 19 tickets not sure anymore, and I'm only 28. Gotta go pay for one today, 59 in 40 I think, I hate rentals, no radar detectors.

I'd say the "sinner/saint" ratio in the ranks of cops tracks, pretty closely, the incidence of those qualities in the general population.

There are good cops and a-holes; I've dealt with both. Some of 'em are guys you'd trust with your life (deservedly so... ) and some are "little Napoleons" with sexual insecurities.

Most are decent enough folks, but I've had a couple of run-ins with local sheriff's' department deputies, manning speed traps in rural Georgia that might open some eyes among those of you who think everyone in uniform is a fair-minded, straight arrow like Andy of Mayberry... #ad
