PROBLEM

The 99 seats have diff mounts than early sec gen. To get the seats back far enough , they are too tall. My head is pretty close to the roof. Thats taking full advantage of the seat adj to move it back. So I re installed the stock seats. After the 4th I am going to try again. This time armed with a sawzall and a welder I am going to cut down the mounts are make them fit the shape off the floor. The inner brackets will take the most work. Hey samsrams have you tried yet??

Karl :(

Need a few days

Hiya Karl,

Haven't hammered on this project just yet, but I have begun the apolstery cleaning. May tackle it this Saturday - Going to Disneyland for the 4th!:D , which is of course never expensive, or doable in just one day..... which takes time away from things like my new neato seat project. I'll tell ya - it's ALWAYS something... . ;)

But ya'know, Disneyland doesn't suck either!!:p

I'm in a better mood now than I was a few days ago... can you tell... ?

New seats - good. New brackets - bad

Wow, okay, got the seats in, but man you're right Karl - the new brackets are NO WHERE close to matching the earlier reg or ext cab floor pans. I think a crew cab would be lots closer 'cause they're flat.

My 93's floor pan has a very steep slope near the trans tunnel. With the original bench seat this had no impact as it didn't bolt down other than on the outside edge of the cab. New seats bolt up both outside and inside. The new brackets assume a fairly flat floor, so a crew cab truck would probably be lots closer. However, reg and club cab rigs will have issues.

Check out the pics - I used wood blocks just to get a feel for it and will cut the wood to compensate for the feel. Note - inner brackets require a LOT of height clearance in order for the whole schmeal to be level. New brackets are on the fabrication list. I'm going to make them and have a set made from aluminum custom made.

The new seats feel 300% better than the stock bench. I sit a little higher than normal now, but it kinda feels good - like being in an earthmover maybe... . I used the stock seatbelts so far - fit right in - I ran out of daylight when it came to the wiring - next weekend maybe.

Thats about how much space I had also. I just did not like how high they sat. You had to have the wheel at full tilt and my head was only about an inch from the roof. I am going to do the opposite, I am going to cut the bracket down so the sit pretty close to stock height. I will post a pic if I ever get a chance to do it, if not anybody need some nice seats??

Forgot to mention

To fit the slope of the floor a little better I swapped the outer seat brackets from right to left (the pic shows the brackets swapped) - they actually bolted right up, and made it a little easier to get the outer brackets closer to the right angle. Soo, for what that's worth...

Going to chop and weld this weekend, and going to do the wiring boogie as well. Will post back with results.

Well I am looking for another truck, so I am going to wait a couple weeks and see what I find. I really want a dually with a manual. If I do not find one by the end of the month I am going to continue on with my 3/4 ton. Good luck with the cutting and welding. Karl

Power seats do not suck!

Got the seats wired up yesterday :D - got the help of a good buddy who happens to be an engineer and understands wiring schematics quite well. After we separated and identified all applicable wires, the job was simple as hell. Seat belt harnesses work perfectly, all power accessories and lumbar work, and the whole truck feels new again.

Many thanks NCostello for the wiring crossover details - worked exactly as you described! We used a 5-flat trailer wiring harness to wire up the main functions and provide us with a color-coded set of wires that became the new main plug, and it worked incredibly well. We pulled the wires for the seat belt out of the loom and connected them directly, etc. I will be providing a color-coded crossover schematic and a parts list of the wiring pieces-parts we used to make it all work, as well as where we got power from and how we tapped it. It all went slick and simple.

Next is to make some custom brackets to get the whole seat assembly about 1. 5 inches lower to the floor.

Great job in the tech department fellas - my most sincere thanks. Again, proof that TDR rocks!

Glad to see you didn't have too much trouble with the wiring. I personally hate dealing with anything "wiring". I can do it but would rather be torqueing down bolts anyday. :)

I just got pair of seats from yard in Topeka as well off ebay as well for $212. 50 however, these are manual from a 2000 truck, hopefully the back box will be there. Really didn't want power as I don't change seat positions at all.

Looking forward to installing these. Has anybody installed these to the '93 seat brackets? What about the rear seat? I know leg room is going to minimal however, my family is all 5'6" or, less hoping it works out.

Hopefully they'll arrive soon and I'll post some photos. :)

Seats arrived yesterday, and must say very pleased.

Appears as though no SCTM, thankfully as these are from a 2000.

Thanks for all the tips on mounting them. The trick will be the back seat.

Thanks TDR!:D
