Competition Dodge VS Dodge

drice, as I recall you had about 230,000 miles on your rig? Maybe there was a defect with the head gasket or the head is slightly warped that could be causing your blowby??

I am trying to remember some specs from doing some engine work before, but only . 002" wear is like pretty miniscule. . .

Can you see or catch any edge at the top of the cylinder where the rings have worn?

Evan Beck had a head off a Ram with 260,000 recently for a gasket and found the cylinders in perfect condition, no detectable wear. As much as he's torn into diesels it is still impressive how little wear the Bs have at high mileage.

Vaughn

yes it had just over 230,000 hard miles (back in high school when it doubled as a baja truck) and when I started racing so I was really glad that there was not much wear yes you can still see the hach markes in the cylinders.

no edge at all that I could feel

I looked at the gasket and didn't see anyhting but that doesn't mean that it wasn't defective. I didn't even think about a warped head I better check it out before it goes back on. at this rate I will have plenty of time to check it. :)

The rig with 260K on it was an early 98 24 valve. It was in great shape inside that engine... No wear whatsoever, and the cross-hatching was still present on the cylinder walls. For comparison, I had a head off of a 97 PSD this week... At 114K, the cross-hatching was all gone, and there was a small ridge at the top of the bore. Block decks on both the PSD and Cummins were great, no detectable warpage on either head as well.

Seen a few cracked 12V heads before... Usually a crack develops between the injector bore and the exhaust valve seat.

How excessive was the blowby?

Which bolt backed out? Was it one holding the gear case to the block, or a cam retainer bolt?

Pistons have side-loads, especially if they have offset pins, on V8s. This promotes bore wear.

I prefer Cummins for pistons and gaskets. It seems like you are going to reuse your pistons, right? Cummins has a number of pistons for the B engines, with different bowl shapes, ring placement, etc.

yes it was one of the bolts that hold the gear case to the block it was the one right next to the vaccum pump so it looked like the vaccum pump seat was bad if it were only that easy.

yes I'm going to reuse my pistions there fine.

I miss my truck I'm stuck with a stock 24 valve and man is that thing SLOW. :) but it goes from point A to point B

Hey now, don't pick on 24V's there! If I recall correctly, this 24V pulled a little further than your brokedown 12V in DeLeon last year. :D ;) Just joking. Sorry to hear about the motor. Hope it comes together and runs even better than before. It's gonna need it this year if you make it to the pulls again. :p

Hope everything works out.

Brian

yeah yeah I know but it WILL run a little better we have some TOP SECRET parts comming in (nothing real major) but I promise it will help next year nothing but FULL PULLS :D

I'm have a friend looking for som air mods next then we can add more fuel

yeah the 24 is a good truck its decently fast for STOCK but it gets 21 MPG that rocks

ANY scoring or scratching can cause blow by. You can rigid hone the cylinders to get rid of light scratches and get back the proper cross hatching. This will also allow the new rings to seat if you are replacing them.
