Bridgestone Dueler A/T LT285/75R16 LR D

Voluntary Safety Campaign

August 26 - December 31, 2004

Bridgestone Firestone Announces Safety Campaign

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 26, 2004) – Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, LLC (BFNT) today announced that it is initiating a voluntary safety campaign in the United States to replace approximately 25,600 Bridgestone Dueler A/T tires in size LT285/75R16 LR D (Load Range D). The subject tires were manufactured in Japan by Bridgestone Corporation and imported into the United States by BFNT for sale in the replacement tire market primarily by its channel of independent dealers as well as the retail stores operated by its affiliated company, BFS Retail & Commercial Operations, LLC (BFRC). In a related action, Bridgestone Firestone Canada Inc. (BFCA) intends to replace approximately 1,400 of these tires in the Canadian replacement market that were sold through BFCA’s network of independent dealers.

Consumers in the United States can receive free replacement tires through any BFRC company-owned stores: Firestone Tire & Service Centers , ExpertTire, TiresPlus, Hibdon TiresPlus, Wheel Works, GCR, or Firestone Commercial & Farm. Canadian consumers should contact an authorized participating Bridgestone retailer for replacement.

Recent data reviewed as part of the company’s early warning system suggests that a small percentage of these tires may experience belt detachment, especially if they have been operated below recommended inflation pressures for the load carried by the tire or above recommended loads. A belt detachment of this kind can, in rare instances, lead to a loss of control of a vehicle and a possible crash. In order to avoid any future problems, BFNT and BFCA will replace these tires to enhance safety and to ensure customer satisfaction. The performance of these tires differs from other Dueler tires, including those of the same size and type which were manufactured after July 31, 2002 , which continue to perform well in the field.

“Safety is the first priority in our company, and to that end we actively monitor our tires’ performance in the field with an advanced early warning system,” according to Mike Kane, vice president quality assurance, BFNT. “We noticed that this specific size and type of tire was not performing up to our company’s expectations, so we decided to remove the remaining tires from service to avoid the potential of any future problems. ”

The tires were manufactured in Tosu , Japan , beginning in July 1, 1998 through July 31, 2002 . BFNT will replace these tires at no charge to consumers with Bridgestone or other brands of tires manufactured by BFNT or its affiliated companies such as Firestone, Dayton and Widetrack. Replacement tires may include (at the consumer’s option) tires of the same size as those which were fitted as original equipment on the consumer’s vehicle.

Consumer toll-free hotline : For questions and additional information about how to identify the tires covered under this program and where to get free replacements, consumers may contact BFNT and BFCA toll free at: 1-800-465-1904.

Notification letter : Every effort will be made to identify customers who have purchased tires covered by this program in order to advise them of the campaign by mail. However, consumers need not wait to receive a letter in order to have the tires inspected, and if they are a part of this action, replaced. Consumers in the United States can visit any BFRC company-owned location to determine if the tires are subject to the campaign. Authorized replacement tire locations are Firestone Tire & Service Centers , ExpertTire, TiresPlus, Hibdon TiresPlus, Wheel Works, GCR, or Firestone Commercial & Farm. Canadian consumers should contact an authorized participating Bridgestone retailer.

Web site : Information about how to identify and replace the tires covered by this campaign as well as frequently asked questions can be found at www.bridgestonetire.com.

Thanks for pointing this out, I was fixen to buy new tires, and it sounds like I get new tires anyhow, jsut have to keep the Dueler's... ... ..... I have 5 tires and 4 out of the 5 meet the requirements.

Oo.

Going to stick this one to the top for a bit! A guy here at work has em. I pointed out to him a week or so ago that there was an odd looking bulge on the right rear tire that went kitty corner across the sidewall and looked odd. Sure enough I am going to give him this info.

I just had my dueler AT's replaced for free with the newer type AT's. The recall had nothing to do with the design or the quality of the tires. The recall was for the 285 size tires that many customers put on stock rims which are too narrow. I have the correct size rims but benefited from the idiots that have them improperly mounted. Thanks! Oo. Oo. Oo.

These are great tires (third set on two trucks).

Got my appointment tommorrow to get 4 new REVO Duelers since they are out of the "older" ones. I'm not complaining, I'll have a full size spare thats got 75% life left in it.

Hey Eric,

Let me know how you like them once the snow fly's. I was contemplating getting them when I got my last set of tires but I ended up getting the Firestone Destination M/T's. They are unbeatable and awesome in any snow, but really do not self-clean well in any deep mud. I should have taken a picture of when I got my truck stuck in our CRP a little over a month ago. I was checking some early beans and drove through the CRP to check them. I had thought that I was going around the low spot that always fills in but turns out I wasn't. Felt a little hesitation in 2wd so I stopped and put it in 4wd. By that time it was too late. It was bad, water started coming in from no where, surrounding the truck, and filled up the deep ruts that I had started to make. There was probably about six inches seperating the rocker panels from the muddy ground. Had to jump to high spots to get out and walk around. Had to have our big Massey Ferguson with the AV8. 540 Perkins Diesel come and pull me out. That was no challenge for it of course. The big challenge was facing my grandpa after he saw what had happened and watched me get pulled out. He lives for that type of stuff, you know what I mean... . :(

I had also contemplated getting a set of tires for winter and a set for summer. That would be a lot of money invested in tires and rims though. I'd like to find a set of rims anyways so I can mount my old Big O's with 3/32 of tread, and then get a picture while I burn them off. Have to wait until the trans gets installed and gets through the break-in point first though. :D

I should have added to the comment made earlier by myself.

The Firestone dealer is a personal friend of mine, and has sold me numerous sets of tires. He gave me the straight deal, for he had no motivation to "spin' the truth. There is nothing wrong with the tires other than the fact that many individuals mounted them on undersized rims. That's it. After the Ford Explorer problems, Firestone is extremely cautious about potential lawsuits.

The new Revos are the best rated truck tire on the market.

TMaas

Fot my Duelers at Mills Fleet Farm. 285/75 for about 144 each.

Kinda weird about the recall. These are the first tires I ever owned that has no ply sep yet.

Looking at possibly going with these tires soon. Want to go from my 265 Michelins up to 285 Revos on stock rims. Am I going to have an issue with stock rims not properly fitting the 285's?

Unsticking this as it has been up for a bit and go figure, That 1500 with the side bulge got a set of brandy new replacements a week ago as they were not part of the recall however the cords on 2 of teh 4 tires had shifted to the point you could see it in the sidewall. Town Fair tire hooked him up good too by calling the area rep and had this whole thing set straight for him. . . . even got a free alignment out of the deal too
