Called the local dealer today and they still are awaiting parts for the brake transmission shift interlock recall. What fun.

I have three fleet trucks awaiting this shifter update. As of two weeks ago the dealers still did not have parts. Any idea what is involved?

This is the Readers Digest version. Try to shift out of park without stepping on the brake. If it stays in park you get a flash. If it comes out of park you need the part and flash.

So the bottom line is most trucks are fine and will get the flash to turn off the BTSI solenoid if you step on the brake with engine running and truck is in park for more than 5 minutes. I can't imagine too many people do that, but some must or their would not be a recall.

I just had my water pump done weekend before this past and was told that parts are becoming available BUT this dealer wants to fix the NEWER trucks first. Check back later.
From what the mechanic was saying, mines a `14, they're replacing the interlock anyway AND doing the flash. The flash is supposed to reengage the interlock after "X" amount of time if you keep your foot on the brake pedal for to long in park. Just what I was told. I also got a letter the following Monday reminding me to get this done AND parts are available. I forgot to ask what the R&R time was.

First off there is no procedure for ANY trucks except 2017-2018. Second, the flash turns off the BTSI solenoid after 3 minutes. In order to get it out of park after that you have to release the brake and reapply. I would be very concerned if you heard your information from an actual technician.

Don't know what you are referring to, from my comment, about a "procedure" as I mentioned none. As for your statement about what the flash does, you're saying the exact same thing I stated except you filled in the "X" before you have to remove you foot from the pedal and reapply. Not a clue why you felt the need to go off. What you do, your dealer does apparently is NOT what my dealer is doing. The only thing I stated that MIGHT be construed as a procedure is "they" are doing both the part replacement AND the flash, AND "They" are doing newer vehicles first. YMMV.

Just so you know sag2 is a trusted source. I believe he was trying to correct your statement which has several errors, Number 1 being the year range and Number 2 being replacement of all solenoids.

Your dealer better not change every solenoid they encounter, and they probably will get spanked on some Warranty Claims before they really read and heed the instructions.

He gives accurate information and has the background and connections to make it so.

I don't see where sag2 "Went off".....it appears the he actually read and understand the terms of the recall, your Tech however did not.

This site is known to offer accurate information and we like to keep it that way.

You were only repeating what you had been told, but now you have the correct information. No need to bristle up, it's all good.

No problem. As we all know tone of "voice" is hard to tell on a forum. My bad for misunderstanding.
I actually didn't state a year range just that my dealer is wanting to fix or replace newer model years first and that being as mine is a `14 the shop didn't want to mess with it at the time of the water pump replacement. Thank you sag2 for the updated information.

Your dealer didn't want to mess with it because FCA has not authorized the repair for older models despite the web site saying parts are now available. I recently had my 2015 at two different dealers trying to get the water pump recall completed(which was completed by second dealer) and both said the system has not yet authorized this one for my truck.

Yes, this is an EXTREMELY difficult medium to communicate in. I am very careful and in spite of that I have offended a few people over the years. If I were face to face with them I would have them laughing but it's very hard to put across on this interweb thingy....:D

Got to love things like this. FCA is telling us we need to take care of NOW but they are telling the shops something different. Oh well, until it becomes an issue for me I'm in no hurry to let my truck be messed with at this time. Thanks for the input.

Been doing forums for many years and I still seem to grate on some people. It's always nice to get a chance to meet some face to face. We always end up getting along great. One of the tough things about living in SW Okieland is there are usually not a lot of folks on the forums living near me. I belong to an old Harley forum and they try to have a meet up once a year. We call it a Family Reunion. I've been to 4 so far and met people from all over the US and several over seas countries. Haven't met one yet I didn't like and we still stay in constant contact to this day. Hopefully, some day, I'll be able to meet a few from here. Seems like a great group, for the most part, and I would mind sharing a cold drink with several.Be well and enjoy!

I will tell you this I read inner companies memo's and I think they spend more time trying to comfort than to get **** done...Geez I want results NOT comforting.. here's some of My favorites ..I feel your pane, I'm sorry, I apologize, I hope I'm not invading your privacy, Sorry to bother you... etc. Last fall I had employee that apologized repeatedly for the same mistakes...The last comment to him from Me was " I want results not comforting " He was fired after repeated efforts to correct, when He filed for enjoyment Wages ..he Claimed it was a Harsh work environment......

"I feel your pane, I'm sorry, I apologize, I hope I'm not invading your privacy, Sorry to bother you..." O M G! Really? I'm so glad I work in an environment where we actually have very few that need to be tip toed around. Our boss is the same as you, don't go into a lot of detail, state your message clearly and plainly and if you can't take the heat, don't start anything. Sorry for the thread drift but this has been enjoyable. I needed it today. :)

That's something that most of us on here enjoy, take a thread off in several directions...it gets pretty interesting at times. No Mod will come down on you for drifting off topic either unlike some other forums....

I got a warning on another forum a couple weeks back for posting too many pictures (like 7...) explaining a hard to access Cadillac O2 Sensor change in a thread and using precious server resources....I'm like "WTH"???

Here it's more pictures the better if it helps explain things.

I really like it here......

Hippy43, Its that's bad..No Joke... I like to extend kindness whenever possible..
