Question for SBC users

Does any one have any advice on placing an engine oil temp sensor? Should I do it, or not worry about it? It's for a 2002. If so, where should I put it?

2 good locations i can think of...

1- 1/8"npt port on top of the filter head. .

2- in the engine oil pan. . either punch & tap the pan, or find an adapter bushing and plug it where your oil drain plug goes. . i think the plug is m18x1. 5. . you could use a m18 plug and tap it for a 1/8"npt, or get an adapter from m18 to 3/8" npt and bush it down to your temp probe thread size [i can't find a m18 to 1/4" or 1/8" npt, only 3/8" and 1/2" npt... ]

for plug - 18MMOR-PLUG [gates hydraulics part number]

for adapter - 18MM-6FP [gates hydraulics part number m18 to 3/8"nptf]

Put mine in there too.

thank you very much. I never thought of looking at the filter for a plug in spot.

Put the Westach probe in the Oilfilter Housing 1/8 Pipe pulg. Works great It reads 190 to 200F.

I did the drain plug thing for the 47RE, Have yet to put the probe in the pan. Moose00
