I wonder if there are other TSB's on the older models. There's a guy that does our contract fencing on our road projects that has a 97 or 98 one ton flatbed CTD. I noticed last year that a small patch of paint coming loose on the hood, I just seen him recently again and now there's patchs of paint coming off all over the hood, roof, and tops of the fenders. His truck is white. It should not be limited to just certain vin's or production dates.

Some cad and chassis are repaints and were differant colors. Were painted by the companys that bought them to install flatbeds etc. You my want to look at that one closer.

This truck--cab/chassis was bought at a dealership and then carried to custom manufactor for the flatbed to be installed.

DP: The truck was white. The man that purchased it new is a individual contractor that does our fencing on the road projects. Has a crew consisting of him and two helpers. He purchased the truck at a dealership about 40 miles away from where I live cab/chassis, and took it to a manufactor of custom flatbeds. All they do is manufactor the flatbeds and install them on the one tons, they do paint the flatbeds black, but the truck cab has always been white. He also has a 99 model same set up,that is red. Paint still looks good on it. I myself had problems with paint and clear coat peeling on two different vehicles. One a 93 Astro van and a 95 Chevy Z71 pickup. Got Cheverlot to paint the Astro for free after it was three years old, and me the second owner, they claimed it was bad primer that caused the paint to peel. The Z71 clear coat started peeling off the hood after about the fourth year. I took it to a body shop that I new the owner and he told me that the hood had been repainted. I told him not by me I bought the truck new, his comment was that anything totaling under $1500. 00, that the dealership did not have to inform you about that, it had been repaired. Sold the truck as is not long afterwards.

I understand. Most all paint problems were in those earlier model years such as you describe. 96 on up wasnt a problem. It was a primer issue.

paint problem

The Paint problem was only on 5000 trucks, of which 2500 were returned to the factory. Repainted and sold at auction. The vehicles that were delivered were tested. I have had by truck since March 03. So far no problem, and no chipping! If you had the problem the paint would come off the truck in large sections!

Chipping is another problem, if you have it! The paint jobs were as good as any other paint jobs, by any one else!
