I cut the Tube bumper off of mine, weleded bumber horns onto the frame, and built a bolt-on 2-1/2" square drawbar bumper so I can have a true 500/5000 capacity. I also installed a toolbox on the hitch for cords, black/grey hoses and other items I don't want inside.
If you install a hitch to the 14/16ga. sewer tube bumper, and the frame mounting points are more than 48" apart, say 60" as average, the torsional strength of the bumper only supports about 180-250 pounds, good for bikes but not a trailer, and four 1/2" bolts in 14/16ga can only draw about 1500 lbs before twisting the tube, which deforms the holes and results in tearing of the steel.
If you are carrying bikes the Ken's hitch is the way to go ( I'd put a stabilizing strap on it), if you wan't to tow a trailer, build or have a hitch shop build you a real hitch.
