2001 trailer fuse protection

Help. Lost power to Prodigy.

I cut the Tube bumper off of mine, weleded bumber horns onto the frame, and built a bolt-on 2-1/2" square drawbar bumper so I can have a true 500/5000 capacity. I also installed a toolbox on the hitch for cords, black/grey hoses and other items I don't want inside.

If you install a hitch to the 14/16ga. sewer tube bumper, and the frame mounting points are more than 48" apart, say 60" as average, the torsional strength of the bumper only supports about 180-250 pounds, good for bikes but not a trailer, and four 1/2" bolts in 14/16ga can only draw about 1500 lbs before twisting the tube, which deforms the holes and results in tearing of the steel.

If you are carrying bikes the Ken's hitch is the way to go ( I'd put a stabilizing strap on it), if you wan't to tow a trailer, build or have a hitch shop build you a real hitch.

Initially the hitch will be used for a 35" spare for the truck on a removable bracket like the bike rack. Down the road, I would like to also be able to tow a boat or 4 wheelers also with some measure of confidence.

The rv dealer I bought the trailer from wants $350. 00 to fabricate a hitch for my trailer in an "H form". I wanted to see what others had done & how it looked afterwards.

I would jump all over that dealer price of $350. I am trying to get a hitch installed on the back of my RV and none of the RV dealers or hitch shops in the Denver area will install them anymore due to liability. Before they stopped fabricating them the dealer I bought the RV from quoted $500-$1,000 for an H type configuration (with some angle brackets at the middle line of the H for additional strength, i. e. the joints between the receiver tube and cross beams). I did find a metal shop in town (Cowboy Metals) that would do it but they also quoted $500-$1,000. I want to pull a small boat or ATV's behind mine.

Quick hijack of the thread here... if anyone reading this knows of a shop in the Denver area that would fabricate a hitch at a reasonable price, post or PM me!
