I'm looking to replace the original "Dodge labeled" soft tonneau cover on my 03 2500. I know these covers have to put up with extreme winter and summer weather conditions - it was ok, but I was not overly impressed with how the original fit or held up (especially since it was OEM). I'm leaning towards the soft vinyl, trifold type that has the bars built in for one man operation and easy removal when needed. Any recommendations on a quality cover? Thanks.

I'm very happy with my "Fold-a-Cover" brand unit. It's my second cover from them .

The newer design has much better latches than the one on my old truck. You can actually stand on the cover if you aren't a moose like me. It's an easy install , just measure carefully. Once installed it's easy to remove if you need the entire bed open.

I have the roll up type. Truxedo model. It has metal rib supports. very strong. Very durable. Sides are one long continuous velcro. Back locks down with tailgate and if you have a locking gate... is secure. Of course anybody with a knife can cut it open. Rolls up and secures with hold straps at the front for when you need to haul cargo. Only had it one year but really like it. Keeps the bed clean and helps somewhat with mpg but never calculated it. No flapping noise at 80 mph,Cost is between 300-400 depends on what kind of deal you can make or where you buy it.

I have a 2002 with a Access Roll up cover, so seven years still looks good, easy to use.
Stays tight and its adjustable. And I have gone over a 100 with it not even moving!

I put a Lund Genesis Tri-Fold on my Parts Department Delivery truck expecting to get a year out of it. On its third year now and will need replacement in the fall. That cover is opened and closed at least 10 times a day, 5 days a week. Easy to remove and pretty tough. Only trouble that we have had is the plastic rear corners broke once and Lund sent free replacements when I called them. They had been abused and I told Lund that I wanted to buy them as it was not a workmanship issue but they wouldn't hear of it, sent the new ones no charge. That is customer service!!!!!! I will replace it with the same thing when the time comes. If it will stand my Parts Runner it will stand just about anything. Just my thoughts.

Mike.

i plan on getting the fold-a-cover G4. locking and made of metal. and not much more then the trifecta. should be a good cover

Thanks for the feedback. I hear that some of the offerings out there don't quite cover the stake holes on top of the bed sides - my OEM Dodge cover barely did. I'm assuming this is because the sizes are somewhat generic and mfgrs can't make a custom unit for each bed. All the same, I'd like my new one to cover all the holes without having to pad the gaps with foam as an afterthought. Snow load is another issue - my original cover had alot of arch in the bows, but the design was apparently weak as the bows reversed under minimal weight turning my cover a pool.

My Extang Trifecta held up to snow in Buffalo this winter... so snow weight seems to not be a problem.

Joe - the Extang cover does not cover the stake pockets completely. I get a trickle of water in my bed sometimes from carwashes but never from rain.
