I get messages sometimes. The active airbox service most recently.

I am looking for suggestions for a tool to read out (and maybe reset) codes for my truck

I have a 2015 3500 Cummins Aisin SRW CC.

There are several good code reads on Amazon depending on the amount of money you want to spend. I purchased an "INNOVA 3100" OBDII reader for my needs in 2008. This has worked well on my 2008 and my son's 2013.5 trucks. The Brand "Innova" at the time I purchased my modeled offered 5 different models and where price accordingly.
Others have used a Scan Gauge code reader with good results so, there are several to chose from depending on what you want to spend and your needs.

I have an innova 3130b but I can't give it a glowing review. It works for the basic stuff but the advanced features like transmission codes that are advertised don't work on any of my vehicles. I had some transmission issues with my wife's 03 Jeep, innova said all was clear. I finally gave up and took it to a transmission shop where I watched him hook up his Snap-On scanner and bingo, got the codes. Go figure.

I use a under $20 Autel 309. Many on these forums use it. It'll give the code and reset it if you want. I don't see the point in spending a lot of money on a code reader unless have a mechanics shop, then you'd need a $3000 or so. Just get the code, it'll give you what the code is, then google for more info or call a dealer. Anything that will reset a bogus code is a must on these emissions load trucks.

Do you just want a code reader or do you want to be able to monitor engine and after treatment functions?

These are the emissions PIDs that Scan Gauge monitors. They also monitor many engine/trans data points.

It can also be transferred to any vehicle to be used as a code reader or monitor another vehicles parameters. Overall its quite versatile but is a good bit more than a basic code reader. Last i saw they were selling for around $160.

I use a device called "BlueDriver". There's an app you download to your smart phone for free, then you purchase a physical device that you plug into your ODBII port and there are all kinds of things you can monitor. I bought mine for the stupid SMOG requirements as it lets you know which monitors are up and running and which ones still aren't ready. The SMOG issue on our 2014 Ram has been a nightmare and the first time I had to SMOG it, it didn't pass because there were a total of four that weren't ready. I kid you not, I put over 7K miles on the truck and finally just barely got it to pass with just one monitor not being ready. Every time it's been an ordeal.
