Hey all,

I'm looking for opinions, and I know everyone on here has at least 1 :-laf

Here's the scoop. I have an early 01 HO 4x4 Quad Cab, and I'd like to do my first fuel enhancement. My question is this: Is it easier on the VP44 to change injectors vs. add an EZ (brand is for example purposes only)? I know many of you run EZ's or some equivilant. It's cheap (relatively) and easy to do. But I don't want to spend $600 for a box, and then have my $3000 pump die 20 minutes later. If I added 275 injectors for example, the power won't be as great (I assume) as a fueling/timing box, but if it's easier on the pump, then I'd lean more along those lines. I tow (never more than 5000 or so) infrequently, but that will be somewhat of a concern.

As always, your help is greatly appreciated.

As my knowledge goes the 2001 pumps have seen enough revisions to not be as susceptable to failures. The mild bombs are not what is causing the pump failures. Its the wild bombs that take em out. Ive heard it said a few times that injectors will really bring your HO to life. Just as a recommendation DD2s or DD3s are both quite potent. DD2s are fantastic for towing. DD3s are more for speed than low range torque. Takes 2 to three hours to do your install for first timers. A box like the ez is great with injectors. they are complimentary. I had a fueling timing box on my pump for over 100k before it failed due most likely to low fuel pressure( damn primeloc).

And by the way I am the proud owner of a brand new pump and they are 1300 to 1450 dollars (not for long). And around 3 to 4 hours R&R. Lots of luck. and to quote one of my heroes "once down the dark path you start forever will it dominate your destiny"

What do you mean by the"not for long". Do you expect them to go up or down in price and why do you think that???

Now this is just what I heard. Kat and I had a discussion about this in another thread. You might want to look it up. the name is the vp44 is dead. I have to date now read 3 letters from bosch stating the extreme unavailability of new pumps. The main production line ceased production is what I read. to retool for common rail. Everyone believes they are still in production. I am not as convinced. After the last new ones are used up all that will be left is rebuilds. They may be produced once a year like the p7100s but its difficult to say. Bosch is required by law to have pumps available for 15 years after production has stopped(new or used). It is very expensive to set up to rebuild these. It is so expensive that in my opinion it is not cost effective. Call your local bosch distributer for his opinion on the matter. Anyone who tells you they have plenty of new ones on there shelf ready to ship is most likely stretching the truth. I called around to many places yesterday and found 6 brand new pumps. These people have plenty on order but few new ones. Word to the wise buy an extra pump while they are cheap. I believe that three or four places are setting up to rebuild these in the US right now but no one has the capability presently. My bosch friend sold me his last pump and he has no way to get any more new ones. He has had 10 on order for many months and was notified by bosch that he was probably not going to see them. Our local dodge dealership just bought 2 of his new pumps. I have assumed that they can no longer get them new. He made no statement either way as to why the dealership bought his pumps. It has been very difficult to locate them up here for some time. I think in the end cummins nw price sounds like what we may be paying in the future.

This whole statement is based loosely on multiple discrussions ive had with a distributer. the person feeding him his info may be putting a heavy spin on the matter. Take my words with a big grain of salt. Find out for yourself.
