Hi Forum. I just read the tie-rod thread about Y vs T style in trying to get information about what components to buy for my original '04. This truck recently had a bunch of work done at shop, but they failed to diagnose failing steering components and more so I'm going to have it all replaced since it's original with 200k. Non-stock components include 3" longer coils and a softer sway bar. Not too long ago I replaced the steering box ( pitman arm is y specific ) and the steering stabilizer so I think it makes sense to stay with the original Y setup as these are Y specific parts. I'd like to order the whole assembly for Y, but can't find it. Geno's only shows the upgrade to T-style kit. Does anybody have a OE part # for kit or a list of part #s ? Anything else in steering to consider replacing since I want to take care of this one in one shot and not have to think about servicing again at least for a little while ?

Thanks, Sven

I don’t think you’ll find OEM components anymore.

When I replaced the steering on my ‘05 I stuck with Y style and used mevotech. I was happy with the quality and price.

Not for 1 Million Dollar I'd use the y-setting anymore. No way.

I was in the same boat as verk with a new steering stabilizer, so I didn’t change. I never regretted it, the Y steering treated me well.

If I was changing the steering stabilizer too I would absolutely upgrade to T steering and Thuren specs.

Not me, that constantly changing toe and the tendency to DW* drove me nuts.
Installed the T and all was good.

The Y steering was a bad idea from Dodge from 2000-2008 only,** and they know why they went away with it. It might work on a Jeep but not on a HD vehicle.

*factory alignment setting
**apparently that bad that the factory came out with a retrofit kit to T which tells me a lot.

Thanks for replies. So trying to create a list of needed parts using the below picture I come up with the following which I by no means say is correct:
#2-drag link (05086144AB) DORMAN TC81044XL
#4-tie rod that goes to pitman arm (05086143AA)? DORMAN TI96031RD
#6-tie rod outer (05086145AA) DORMAN TT81074XL
#8-tie rod outer from left (05086146AB) DORMAN T3625RD

Dorman description refers to these parts as "1st design" which I'm guessing means Y. Should I get adjusting sleeves or any other components that I'm missing.

Thanks, Sven

a steering damper doesn't cost much and the pitman arm would have to be removed correct ? I'm not adverse to changing and given your experience and answers trust you, but I've not had issue with this aspect of the truck and as others also have not as well am inclined to stick with it.

looks like #4 should be DORMAN T3625XL which says "1st design" not "Superior Design"

The T-upgrade comes with two different draglink heads to fit the old style 4-bolt steering gear/pitman or the new 6-bolt box.

But if you are happy with yours then keep it, there's nothing wrong with it if it serves your needs just good.

First design is correct.
Sometimes there are kits available containing all the parts from knuckle to steering gear.

About $160 not including steering damper that is included in the link above. I've attached a pdf of order in case somebody wants to reference.
The shop I used before they closed encountered poor fitting parts with the Moog. I got in on a shop price for the Synergy when it first came out. It was well under $600. It's too expensive now. I'd go with the Mopar OEM now.

I put an 08 tie rod, draglink, and sector arm on my 03 several years ago. This was Mopar I bought online. The 05 I just bought has the T style, but I don’t know the brand. No grease fittings.

No grease fittings is probably MOPAR. As the aftermarket that i know all come with zerks claiming that it is way superior over factory. Which it isn't. It just mask their below par manufacturing skills.

The 08 Mopar I ordered for my 03 had grease fittings.

Then it was modified by the seller, OEM is definitely without zerks
I had one of these kits on my truck until recently. Even got the Recall Tierod replacement for free.
Same as the trucks that left the factory for the last 20 years.
