Dyed fuel--is it worth it?

I don't think it is worth the hassle if you have to pay the tax! Think about it! Why have to have the burden of keeping receipts and going through the fight to get free of a possible fine by having to prove when you bought it and that you paid the taxes.

What's to keep you from buying it all the time and paying the taxes? I guess nothing other than why do it? I don't like the hassle! The official program only runs through September 15, 2005. If you want to be legal, that is!

local hp and dot men were out this morning near the service station nearby, pulling over large commercial stuff this am. Local station sells red for 2. 59. 9 now i might be wrong but with the extra . 9 on there your paying sales tax instead of straight 2. 59 a gallon, i never thought i would see farm fuel this high ever.

So if you can prove the station is selling it and your paying tax on it, then you can run it no matter what, if tax is paid the G Man is SOL. I do keep my reciepts due to the farm here, so i have all of mine. Dangdest thing i ever seen, worried about that and the friggin roads are a mess, what the hell do they do with that money except line someone's pocket thats in a job the state created so it sounds good.

I work for the state and trust me, the waste of money is unfricking believable.

I've got a question then about the home brew Bio diesel. What if you got dipped with that in your tank, what would they say?? You paid your normal sales tax on the ingredients, but that is WAY less than the tax on pump diesel and you are still using the roads the same as anyone else. So, are you Tax Evading with making your own fuel??

My concern is that once red dye is in your truck for this short run that it will be there for ever. It never really goes away. So after Sept 15 when it all ends and you get pulled over and diped, but your running regular diesel are you going to get fined. and whats to keep a person from running red dye after that and just claiming that its residue dying there fuel.

Kory

The dye is gone when the fuel is burned. The fuel haulers will haul regulard diesel and then haul red dye the very next load. Now if you put a half a tank on top of a half a tank of red... your rolling the dice.

The road tax applies to manufacturing and SELLING of more than 400 gallons. Just making it for yourself doesn't matter. (yet. give them time. )

This waiver I believe only lasts till Sept. 15th and its to allow more fuel into the market to prevent a shortage. Not worth the hassle for those that aren't suffering a shortage.

Sorry but WRONG about the red dye being gone after you burn it. I bought a water tender from the state and they use red fuel. it took about 10 to 20 tanks before it STARTED to leave. It stains the complete tank. The stuff is there to stay VERY LONG!

I'm certain you are correct and I mispoke/mistyped. I could only assume the guys working at the refinery knew what they were speaking of. Since I would never run dyed fuel in my truck, I can't speak from personal experience. Nor would I ever post online about it if I did.

He is correct. The dye is ther for a long time. And will continue to dye the fuel you run until the dye is gone. Tank, fuel lines, filters, and injectors will be dyed.
