Disclaimer: I am not trying to upset or offend anyone by posting info about Nowel's truck. I am recieving a lot of inquiries about how the truck is doing so I feel compelled to post some info.
Well Byron (bhaner on the TDR my crew chief and head mechanic) and I got the last of the needed clamps delivered yesterday morning in order to complete assembly of the new intercooler boots and clamps. We replaced them all as they showed signs of wear.
We spent quite a while finding just the right conbination of clamps to fit everything correctly. There has also been a replacement of all vital fuids and a few other corrective measures taken.
Yesterday around 5:00 pm I (finally!!! it has been three weeks) got to turn on the fuel pump, prime the system and then turn her over. OH MY GOD!!!!! It is unreal!!!! This truck is like nothing I have ever been in. It sounds like an F-18 at about 1600 rpm and pullls like one at 2500 rpm.
Byron and I stopped to fuel it up and within thrity seconds there was a bunch of guys (all driving Ford diesels) wanting to know what was up with that truck???
Sitting at idle waiting to get fuel is not fun for anyone in the near vacinity because the smoke is just too thick. I tried turning off the comp box but that just made it worse by srewing up the timing. I need to get a couple big fuel cans. Gas stations are not a god idea!!!!!!! Some milder injectors for the street would be good. The transmission is unreal. The torque converter is so tight that it will kill the engine when shift from first to reverse if you are not careful. I have not ever tried the lockup yet, let alone nitrous I have a LOT to learn and I am loving every minute of it.
I need to get some 90-10's up front and a new set of springs in the rear (for the short term) These both need to happen before I get the truck to a track for the first time. This truck is most definately NOT made to corner!!!! But when you can go this fast in a straight line who cares about corners???
I would like to thank all the guys in the California area who have been so helpful with getting me going on this project!!!! You know who you are and thank you very much.
Nowel your truck ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!
RIP
