Off Roading Great Issue

Off Roading pulled out a hummer

Disclaimer: I am not trying to upset or offend anyone by posting info about Nowel's truck. I am recieving a lot of inquiries about how the truck is doing so I feel compelled to post some info.

Well Byron (bhaner on the TDR my crew chief and head mechanic) and I got the last of the needed clamps delivered yesterday morning in order to complete assembly of the new intercooler boots and clamps. We replaced them all as they showed signs of wear.

We spent quite a while finding just the right conbination of clamps to fit everything correctly. There has also been a replacement of all vital fuids and a few other corrective measures taken.

Yesterday around 5:00 pm I (finally!!! it has been three weeks) got to turn on the fuel pump, prime the system and then turn her over. OH MY GOD!!!!! It is unreal!!!! This truck is like nothing I have ever been in. It sounds like an F-18 at about 1600 rpm and pullls like one at 2500 rpm.

Byron and I stopped to fuel it up and within thrity seconds there was a bunch of guys (all driving Ford diesels) wanting to know what was up with that truck???

Sitting at idle waiting to get fuel is not fun for anyone in the near vacinity because the smoke is just too thick. I tried turning off the comp box but that just made it worse by srewing up the timing. I need to get a couple big fuel cans. Gas stations are not a god idea!!!!!!! Some milder injectors for the street would be good. The transmission is unreal. The torque converter is so tight that it will kill the engine when shift from first to reverse if you are not careful. I have not ever tried the lockup yet, let alone nitrous I have a LOT to learn and I am loving every minute of it.

I need to get some 90-10's up front and a new set of springs in the rear (for the short term) These both need to happen before I get the truck to a track for the first time. This truck is most definately NOT made to corner!!!! But when you can go this fast in a straight line who cares about corners???

I would like to thank all the guys in the California area who have been so helpful with getting me going on this project!!!! You know who you are and thank you very much.

Nowel your truck ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

RIP

After taking Mrs. Hoss out for a ride I went back to the shop and rechecked all the intercooler boots and lock wires. I tightened all the clamps again and then went out for another trial run. This time Andy (Lunatic) was with me. He was impressed and this guy drives a dragster. I feel more and more confident each time I drive it. I add a little more boost each run and everything is holding together well (except traction) I still have yet to lock up the torque converter so I think that will the next thing to play with. I have only had it to a little over 50 lbs of boost so far. The max recall on the boost guage shows 92 lbs I don't plan on being there any time soon!!!!! I cannot wait to get the roll cage installed and new seats and harnesses. I need them!!!!

If all goes well I will be plannning a trip to a test and tune in the next couple week. I will let you know when that happens!!!

Thanks for the offer Jake!!!!! I will take you up on that some day but not for while :( I have a lot of work to do and the list keeps growing!!! :D

I am right now having the drivelines reworked with all new U-Joints and both axle tubes are being shortened (they are too long now) I have new rear springs to replace the old ones and a new (looser) torque converter and flex plate on the way. Thanks to Joe at Suncoast!!!!!:D The roll bar should be here Thursday and will be installed this weekend along with new racing seats and harnesses.

Next in line is a new set of pistons and a cam!!!!!!;)

Here’s a few things to remember # 1. You shouldn’t exceed the posted speed limits.

# 2. When engaged in a race, let the other person win (there are a lot of whiners out there)

# 3. Mission ? We’re going up as well (shall we get it over with?)
