I've put considerable amount of miles on 3 different Ext. Cab (4-door suicide door style) trucks over the last 5 years, and am now trying to decide between Mega-Cab, and a Regular Cab.

Do you ever wish you had more room? Is there alot of road noise from the back glass?

Tell Us How You Feel About Your Regular Cab Truck!

TIA,

Merrick

I've never been in a 3rd Gen regular cab, but I absolutely love my '01. Almost all of the miles on it have come with me in it by myself. There are occasions lately, with our new baby, that I could use the space of an extended cab. But, I have no plans to replace it any time soon.

Present!

I have only had regular cab Rams. I enjoy the classic look of a regular cab, and I really don't need the extra people room very often. The 3rd gen is one of the quietest vehicles I've ever had- there is no extra noise coming in from the back window area. There is plenty of room behind the seat for most items. I recommend it- especially if you have another vehicle to move people in.

I love my reg. cab for parking in mall lots and tolerate it the rest of the time.

I couldn't tolerate it as much traveling as I do, I have to have a place out of the weather to keep my clothes. That and I usually have my cousin or my fiance with me. Try taking two people on a weekend trip with a sub box behind the seat. My cousin and I had a large thick plastic bag we would wrap our bags up in before leaving town so if it started raining on the way to a pull or something we could just keep on trucking. :-laf

i just bought a reg cab (in sig) and i love it course im 18 single w/ no plans af marragie for sometime but i like the long bed and the short wheel base. really it all just depends on your needs

Thanks Matt. Exactly my situation, and what I wanted to hear.

Anymore?

TIA,

Merrick

one reason i bought the quad cab vice the regular cab is if i recall right the quad cab has a higher payload and towing capacity. this is due to the cab adding strength to the frame. i could be wrong as i have not looked at the numbers in a while. i know a quad cab short box is the same length and wheelbase as a long bed standard cab. just soem food for thought

I have a 06 Reg cab on order to replace my 05 Quad cab. Don't need the interior room, 4 piece folding tonneau cover on the bed will provide lockable storage and still allow use of the bed when I need it.

Are you considering the Quads at all, or just the Mega/Reg? Quad cab is probably the way to go if you aren't making long trips with people in the rear seat or you don't care about the comfort of rear seat riders but still want more in-cab storage than a regular cab.

I've had a 3rd gen reg cab since last August. After reading this board for a few months I was surprised to see how many people have 4 door trucks. First it is very quiet, second there is plenty of room behind the seat. There's so much room I have started carrying a 20 qt cooler back there. Noise from the back window? Not that I know of. I've had about five or six full size trucks and they were all regular cabs, and this one has the most room, so my opinion might be a slightly different. I did have an extra cab in a 4WD Toyota once though, but it really needed it. Very happy with the regular cab. I do drive solo alot though.

Hope this helps,

Tim

My Wife & I love our 04. 5 reg. cab. We had a ist gener extended cab but do not miss the room. No vibration on the back solid window as these trucks have great insulated cabs. Its great to just turn your head to see behind you without the piller blind areas. No! we do not miss the extra room as with just the two of us, it works out just grand. On longer trips we take, our trailer acts as the extra storage. Pretty fair room behind these seats as is.

I sold my regular cab, D250, and bought the Quad cab. Though I loved my D250, I'm constantly finding great reasons for the back seat in my new one. It's extremely handy. The only drawback, like stated earlier, is the turning radius. But as in all changes, you adjust. No problem.

I wouldn't go back to a regular cab pickup now!

I had an '01 Q-cab and it was the right size/ space for me. I wish that a Q-cab w/ the suicide type rear doors was offered on the 3G trucks. The "wimpy" read doors of th enew ones, albeit, handy are too small for 'real' rear doors and the room behind the front seats is not much more. I like the extra room of an exteded cab, but the former one seemed to fit my needs better.

I have not owned a recent model truck of the regular cab configuration and would probably not consider one either.

Funny, I thought the truck in my signature looked like a "real truck. " Sure feels, tows, and hauls like a real truck. Hum?

I have one of each. The reg cab is easier to park. It's actually quieter inside than the 2nd gen. It has a lot of room to put stuff behind the seat. I even put my luggage behind the passenger seat on trips, along with hanging up a few shirts. For just two people, the reg cab is fine.

I’ve got 57000 miles on my ’03. I wanted a full size 8 foot bed and the regular cab is plenty big when you’re trying to find a parking spot. There is plenty of room behind the seats for my uses. There isn’t any road noise coming in the back window unless I open the slider. The thing is I can open the slider from the driver’s seat. (I don’t know; do the 4 doors have power rear window?) I haven’t compared the two in sub zero weather, but the regular cab has less volume for the heater to warm. At -20° I was glad for the smaller volume.

I'm not one to settle for status quo, so it's going to be the Regular Cab, or Mega Cab. Either one will get frame modifications to change the wheelbase.

If I get a Regular Cab, it will get extensive modifications both to the interior and the drivetrain. It will be turned into a short bed. I will own it for 2-3 years and then sell it.

A great big toy. Twin turbo, cam/head work, injectors, stacked boxes, fuel pump, nitrous, 6" or 8" lift, 37" or 39" tires etc. . I will change the color of the carpet, the headliner, and paint all the plastic parts in the interior. This truck will see few miles over it's lifetime. Maybe 100miles/wk average for 3 years.

If I get a Mega-Cab, it will get alot of modifications, but I will try to keep it as a highway cruiser and a great tow vehicle. Modifications will be simple to keep the truck as a tool.

This truck will be a daily driver. One that I will keep on the verge of forever unless my income changes significantly for the better. The interior mods will be kept minimal, a TV or two, DVD player, sound system. (I need it to stay "kid" friendly as this wil be the truck that will move my future family around)

Motor mods will be simple. Programmer, Cam, BB Turbo, intake and exhaust. Suspension mods will be 6" airbag lift that can come back down to stock height for people loading (LOL), and some 36"x12" tires.

My g/f and I are leaning towards a toy truck before we get married and for the first few years of marriage, then after we get married, get a mans truck (Mega-Cab) that can work, and haul people.

While we have the regular cab, she will have the people mover vehicle. After we sell the regular cab, the tables will turn.

Keep the info comin' guys! I feel like I'm at IRP. LOL

I'm absorbing this stuff like a sponge.

How far do the front seats recline on your Reg. Cab?

Thanks,

Merrick

It's awfully nice to have an 8' bed and still be able to make a decent U-turn :) . If you ditch the center seat section there is a lot of open space in the regular cabs for two people, three is of course out of the question. The cab would have to stay tighter over the long haul of abuse and offroading too. If I was hauling more than two people more than once every month, I would regret the r/c, other than that, the advantages seem to outweigh hauling around that extra sheet metal and crap you would stick back there.

For me it was a choice of quad cab short bed or reg cab long bed. I went for the long bed because I had a short bed once and found it too short too often. The LWB would be too long to walk around in my garage and a pain in parking lots.

One complaint I have is the doors are w-i-d-e. You can't open them very wide in tight parking spaces. I like the small suicide doors on the F150 reg cab for storage access.
