I have been searching for info on my troublesome fuel solenoid and I keep reading about there being two relays on the firewall one big and one small.

I only have one relay... the other socket is empty... the smaller one is where the relay that I purchased from radio shack fit for the fuel solenoid... .

What is the other one for? Why don't I have anything connected to it ?

I finally broke down and ordered the manual from DC for the truck :)

My truck is a 1995 with the 5 spd

Good question, it suppose to be for the intake heater relay... . guess what I don't have one there either... it's empty too.

My relays are pushed onto a sheet metal bracket that is fastened to the firewall. If you have no relay mounted on one of the bracket tabs, perhaps it has come off and is laying in the "stuff" below the bracket. I can't understand why you would have no grid heater relay there.

If the relay is there, but there is nothing connected to it, perhaps the connector has fallen off and is laying in the "stuff" below the bracket.

Nopower, are you sure you are looking in the correct place?

This is the Fuel heater not Intake heater relay (intake heater relays are the pair below the ds battery on the inner fender).

Some years. . this fuel heater relay is unused.

Anyhow, I don't like the radio shack 30 amp relay for that reason, the shut off relay is more likely a 70 amp or so. . look at the hella catalog or other automotive elec. supply catalog, the male pins are far larger. .

The mopar part at retail is about $50 +/- and comes with both relays whether or not your model year uses this particular heater relay.

Good luck,

Andy

works and then doesn't

This mornings temp here was 10 degrees and when I went out to start the truck it stasrted right up... drove maybe 8 mi and had to shut it off and tried starting again a couple of times and it started again boyh times. 20 min later it would not start without manually pulling up on the solenoid.

Looking around when I got back home I noticed that the wires (black red and white) coming from solenoid to the three prong connector were taped. Untaping them I found that insulation had been cut off the white wire. baring the wire. I also noticed that down by the solenoid that it appears that it may have been changed at one time I can see rust marks like the solinoid that bolts on is smaller than the one that might have been there originally.

Any ideas????????????
