Relocate tailgate camera to a camper

Not sure this is the right forum to post this question, but think only the 4th gen trucks have tailgate rear back up cameras. After 17 years with a Ford PSD that was a great truck, I bought a 2018 3500 short bed, CC. Did first trip with our old camper (over 3000 pounds) and could not be happier with the stability and auto exhaust brake. A big change in the name of safety.

I need to remove my tailgate to install the camper which has a 2 foot overhang. So I have to disconnect the camera harness and install the supplied plug. Would be nice to install a camera on the back of the camper that plugs into the factory wiring so works on the stock display. Seems would be an easy, and wanted, option.

I could buy a wiring harness and make up my own, but assume some aftermarket company must make such a plug in camera.

Ideas?

I put this on a few weeks ago,it is plug and play.I have a shell with doors,I mounted the cam mount on the license plate holder,it would be easy to bump it with my foot when getting in the back....you won't have that problem.It could be mounted else ware,I have not done it yet,I am thinking about the ladder rack.

They list this for 2013 - 2016 Rams. Mine is 2018. Do you know if they changed the plug in 2017?

How long is the extension wire?

Looks like the product dimensions are 10.5 inches long, which might not be enough. I ordered the factory tail gate camera and jumpers but only have a camper that is flush with the back. No overhang. There is slack in the line I ordered because it is not going into a tailgate but I don't know about two feet of slack. Probably less than that. Also the camera needs to be mounted at an angle down, as is on the tailgate stock. Mine works great BTW.

Does Amazon include the camera? On Amazon the picture only shows the harness that goes to the camera.

On the manufacturers site it shows the harness and the camera and the price is $199.95 vs $163.82 on Amazon. However there is very little info about what is included on the Amazon site. If they include the camera it's a better deal.

I got a complete cam/harness from Amazon.I just took a quick look,it looks like more than 7 feet of extra wire.Maybe I was looking the the wrong thing on the make's site?Anyway,my Mon morning meeting got moved up to right now.

Called them today. The 7453 model is good for 2017 and up. Should do the trick. Now need to check prices on Amazon and elsewhere.

Could not find this new model on Amazon, had to order direct from Brandmotion. Arrived in a week, but came with a female end on the end of the cable, which needs to plug into the female end on my truck. Cord was way long. Talked to them today and they are having new one sent, along with a return label. Hope all works out.

i made my own.... but it's a little different as it plugs into my Edge. just a cheap camera that's like 30 and made my own wire loom to plug into the truck one. so when i plug my 7 pin connector for my 5th wheel there is 2 other plugs, one for batteries and one for a camera. they are a twist lock rca looking thing. i sourced parts from frys electronics.

I just talked to Brandmotion and he told me for a 2018 you need part number 7443. He has them at $199.95. Summit Racing has them for $179.96. I would triple check the plug but Brandmotion said they are aware of the pigtail so maybe the extra $20.00 is cheap insurance to get the right one.

Brandmotion sent me the harness with the correct plug. Seems to work great. Only complaint is the harness is LONG, but I can zip tie the extra length together.

Not if I can just get them to send me a return label for the wrong part. They said would mail, said would email, but do not get it. So I may have a spare camera if they do not follow through. Just emailed customer service, will see what happens. Ball in their court.
