Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Relocated LP question

I just finished relacation of lift pump, here is the deal.

It has a prefilter (clear casing) LP ( carter 4601) and

regulator (mallory 4309). The filter will not fill up,

runs about half, the reg is ajusted to full press

and I get 12 psi at idle 9 at WOT??? This is

much better than before 9psi idle 3to 4 WOT

but I was really hoping to be higher. Anyone have

any bits of wisdom?



I have though the pump might be bad, got from

Summit, will they take it back even though

diesel through it? does anyone know?

I'd lose the regulator or at least try w/o it.

Lots of guys have run the 4601 with out a regulator and had no problems other than the pump giving up after about 6-12 months. It really is not much better than a stock lift pump unless you count the price as its much cheaper than a $160 pump from Cummins. I still have one in a box in the garage, going to use it for another project or for a spare if I get caught without a back up pump.
