I purchased a new OEM Lift Pump last week from Cummins. I am thinking about relocating it back by the tank and bypassing the original location.

I have some questions.

1) What line fittings / threads do I need to plumb the new lift pump into the supply line back at the tank? Is the line back at the tank all the way to where it fastens to the steel line that goes into the filter simply a rubber fuel line hose?

2) What fittings / threads are needed to replace the input banjo fitting on the input to the fuel filter?

3) My thought is to simply extend the OEM lift pump power wires back to the new location, since I will not be using a pump in the OEM location; any issues with just cutting the wires and splicing in enough wire to reach the new location?

4) Build a mount bracket to fit on the frame back by the tank and complete the above steps... did I miss anything? Any other thoughts / suggestions?

I don't care to get fancy or spend a bunch of extra money. If you can be specific on your answers and give suggestions on where to acquire the parts and their specific names I would greatly appreciate it. I don't know much about fuel systems / terminology and I find quite often the part boys and girls know less than I do.

TIA. ;)

Might want to check around a little--there have been people offering 'kit' to relocate, don't know if any are still out there, check with Western Diesel they had kit at one time..... I looked under mine today as I replaced my third pump in 47K... . That banjo on the inlet side of the pump goes about two feet then pipe back to close to top of diesel tank (about 6 ft). . I'm like you and thinking of do this soon... ... ..... R, J. B. :(

Lift Pump

Rashwor, I have been looking to do the same thing and this is what I found out that you need 5 12X1. 5 mill adapters to #6an hose. and 5 swivel full flow 90 degree swivel to # 6 an hose and about 12ft #6 fuel hose, Thats about all i have found out so far. I am having a parts man look to see if Parker hose fittings would work. Maybe other members that have done this know more. Hope this helps. Al Mendes

Practical solutions Diesel

Practical Solutions has put together a kit to relocate the Lift Pump to the back near the tank. .

I did mine exactely what you are asking, I have an extreme detail log of EXACTELY what I did.

I do a pre project analysis, detail project notes, post project notes and verification. All part numbers I used, where to get them, cost at time I did mine, why I did what I did, what I would do differently then knowing what problems I ran into.

Yep it is long and much better sent to an email address than posted here. Document is in Microsoft word ie XXXXXX. DOC.

I love mine. Monitor pre and post filter. 15k (albeit not much milage) the LP runs like a top. It is basically inside frame (not inside of THE frame) mounted on a angle iron bracket about 12" forward of the front of the OEM fuel tank, line run to filter, etc. Extended LP wires to new location. I do live in a southern climate.

I tend to take things to the anal extreme, but you can take as little or as much if the ideas as you want.

Let me know,

Bob Weis

guys do a search there's so much info on this---but yes you can change out the banjo's to better ones or you can delete them altogether for the 12mmx1. 5 thread weber carb adapters and use aeroquip or like fittings----with your choice of hose

electric fuel pumps are pushers NOT suckers--get it back by the tank--you can also use a bigger line at the top of the tank with a clamp-- -08 is the biggest I recommend for hose size-----chris

Relocating Lift Pump

PS Diesel who I have bought a lot of products makes a kit that allows you to just plug into the existing harness to relocate the pump by the tank. It comes with all wires and relays etc, and I think I paid about $150. 00.

Hope this information is usefull.

Rick

Thanks to all.

More questions later I am sure. rweis, would you mind sending me what you have? You can send it to -- email address removed --.

Thanks again. :)

Seems to me that there was an outfiit outa Texas that was offering a whole kit including wireing, lines etc. Does anybody know who that was?

Must being switched over. I couldn't connect either. Guess I also will try the fone # unless anyone else has other thoughts. Thot I saw something in the classifieds on this once upon a time.

Briar Hopper is developing a 24v fuel system upgrade, but it's not ready yet. I checked about two weeks ago.

YES, I'm moving my LP too. Some engineers need a little real world experience.

The wiring harness kit at Practical looks painless enough. Just add pump, filter, and plumbing.

And who it was said "I have a journal" please send me a copy "wade[at]heartoftn[dot]net" thanks.

Haven't heard from Bob...

Bob is the one who said he had a journal of what he did, but I have not heard from him since then. Maybe he will peek his head back in on this thread. :)
