I have yet another idiosyncrasy with my 2010 3500 Laramie. From day one, about 6 months ago, the remote door unlock, with the "key fob", has only worked intermittently. This behavior happens with both key fobs AND with new batteries installed in them.

Interestingly, the parking lights and turn signals flash but the doors do not unlock consistently. When the remote does work properly and unlock the doors, the headlights come on (as they should).

So the receiver for the key fob signal seems to be working but it does not reliably send "door unlock" signals to the "door unlock thingy".

Also interestingly, when I use the conventional, mechanical key to unlock the door, the alarm is triggered.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

my 06 sometimes seems it does not get the signal at all... ... and it takes several times before it works... fob has been replaced by dealer and still does it... . i think it is a p. o. s

5 years with my 98 and 7 years with my 03 and never had a remote lock problem. Maybe should have kept the 03, it only had 160,000 miles on the clock!

they should have kept the fob seperate from the key... like my 04 had... worked great... . i posted about this and nobody seemed to have the problem, but me?????

I had the same problem. Lights would activate, etc. , but doors would not unlock. Switched to my spare fob and now no problems. taking the other fob in with the truck next week for the sat. radio. My two random dead battery events seem to be a thing of the past, at least for now.

my 2011 4500's puddle lights have a mind of their own. in the setup you can set them so they go out with the door lock or not, mine is set so no lock is required from the key fob, sometimes it works fine, tonight for example they would not go out with the key pulled, but would go out with the key in the ignition, or if I locked it. honestly just thought I was the retard not the truck, kinda feel better knowing there are other phantoms out there.

I can see my truck from the kitchen window. one night the puddle lights were on for about 30 mins. as far as I know, it has only happened that one time.

The puddle lights stay on for about 10 minutes if the door is opened and then closed back without doing anything, example: reach in and grab your coat after the truck has been sitting awhile. The thing I don't know is how long the truck has to sit before it does this. Most of the time the puddle lights go out with the interior lights some times they stay on ??

As far as the door looks go mine did act silly at first but we reflashed door modules (trying to figure out the puddle lamps) and the locks have worked perfect since. The other funny thing is when we did the flash the logo on navigation radio screen went from a picture of a ram head to DODGE with a couple orange stripes behind it.

I have no clue what my puddle lights are set to or how they behave. Guess I should take a look. (maybe something else to fret about... )

I did not know there was a "door module" that could be flashed. At least I can tell the dealer about that. Thanks for that info.

I'm experiencing the same problem with my '08. The symptom showed up immediately after I lost a key, purchased a new key, then paid the local dealer to program the key. I assumed it resulted from something the tech did when he programmed the key. Apparently something else is going on.

There is a module for each door. I think we reflashed the whole truck when we did mine.

The alaram is armed and disarmed when you lock and unlock the door with the buttons on the key fob. If you lock it with the button and unlock it with the key the alarm sounds just like if somebody broke in. I think to arm the alarm you have to lock the doors with the driver door open then close it after you hit the lock button (might have dreamed this but pretty sure I read it some where).

Yeah, I found out about that alarm key thing the hard way, pulled into a ritzy area Starbucks to treat myself to some fine overpriced coffee and set the alarm off, I was already being glared at for being in the street with a trailer, all I could do was smile and give em my best beauty queen parade wave till I got the booger to shut up. . lol

All,

Took the beast to the dealer today for the key fob issue. They found no problem but reset "all the codes". They asked me to keep track of future such events and record date, time, distance of fob from truck, weather, temperature and mileage. They said they want to report these data to Dodge.

They suggest that when this happens to wait several seconds before trying again to give the "rolling codes" a chance to reset. I asked if there was a way to enter the truck with the door key without setting of the alarm, answer, "no"

My truck will not unlock or lock when I have fresh batteries in the controller.
Anybody have an idea where to start looking?
Any response would be appreciated.

Brian

BSchweers,

I suspect that your problem with the 2004. 5 may be different than that with the 2010's "key fob".

As for my case, the problem still persists, but not frequently.

Had same problems and more with the dang key fobs. Windows going down, lights flashing and doors locking unlocking. Dealer has seen it do it and we have went thru several key FOBS and control modules. Finally seems to be working right. I still think the FOBS are to sensitive and activate with barely a touch.
