My wonderful repair manual seems to have left out a few things like having to remove the starter and how to get the dip stick tube out of the middle of the sensor, not to mention the fact that the stupid thing will not budge. More fantastic fore sight on a marginally desinged vechile, any wonder the big 3 are in the crapper??!!!! Any one had a problem removing this @#$%& piece of crap, any sugestions?? The dip stick is so hard it will never come off with out repacement?? NOT a mopar fan!!!

All I had to do was drop the starter to get mine out. Didn't even touch the dipstick at all. My sensor was not stuck in the hole like some here have reported.

Upon more swearing ect it appears that it may well come out past the dip stick have got it turning, but in the process have broken the head of it off, stupid place for the dip stick none the less. Must really get rid of this pile, tis nothing but a money pit!

Yeah your 100% right. The whole Mopar is junk. Sell it or trade it in for a Duramax or Powerstroke and go join the appropriate forum.

Finally got it out,5/32 drill bit. screw in a 2. 5 " deck screw, twist turn swear!! attach small vise grips(apply large amounts of penertrating fluid) small pry bar, push in out twist turn swear,2. 5 hours later its out. rust was built up outside o ring. relife at llast hammer marks in door free, buying a dodge, stupid, will go back to my fords!!

Let me get this right. Ford glow plugs, remove intake to replace:-laf. To see the ground under the truck at the engine compartment will require stepping away from truck and looking under the front end as there is no way of looking around the engine to see any day light under vehicle:-laf. To repair anything on the engine requires a crane as the cab needs to be removed to gain access to just about anything except filters:-laf. When purchasing your new Ford a Winers hand book is included with each over priced purchase and there's one born every minute to keep us in business:-laf. You only thought that crank sensor was a pain to change, you haven't seen anything yet:-laf.

Thank you , is really a love /hate deal love the power but hate the short commings and in this economic attmosphere just can't afford big surprises, Thank god for the TDR!!!

You really should fill out your signature so we know what kind of Dodge Cummins you drive.

Back in the day, when I first signed up with TDR. A few of the 4X4 guys would call their trucks the "Roadkings of the highway". I would agree with them, they were putting out loads of HP on the roads, at the strip and in the woods. Truly could go where ever they wanted to go. I have considered my truck to be the "Roadqueen of the highway". My truck is a 4X2. I bought my truck and camper within a couple of months of each other. Never looked back and still drive the rig with a smile today as I did the day I took them out on our first trip. Everyday I wait as the "wait to start" light goes out to hear the Cummins fire up and till this day, it has never failed me. (yes, knocking on wood) I have had componets fail, but with the knowledge of TDR members, I have always knew what needed to be done to fix my truck.

I was probably one of the few to NOT be my own warranty. But as soon as it was gone I started to do BOMBs to my truck. This truck has only been to the dealer once, the headlight switch was getting too hot, which they did change out.

As I said in an earlier post, Good luck with your truck!

If your referring to me I'm ready anytime as I am not going anywhere. If not referring to me disregard.

sorry to hear about your truck troubles I have had my share usually my own fault, or lets face it my truck is old. I may not feel the same as some members on here and would tell another person to go jump to a ford or chevy. to me its a waste. I do know that your older ford you got would be a nice canidate for a 12valve swap. good luck with your truck and your decisions. there are people on this site that pay for this site. to learn things, and exchange info. not to see how stupid people can be.

If you're having a problem, do what I do. Take it to someone who knows what he's doing, give him a little money, and magically it will be fixed.

I am like DIESELWRKS I have an 02 with almost a 100,000 miles (99,479). The truck does what I want it to do & have had little to next to any problems. Of all the miles I would have to say that 95,000 miles has been with our 10,000lbs HR trailer behind it. My son asked me last week if I had all the money to do what ever I wanted to do to the truck what would I do. I told him NOTHING it does what I want with no problems.

This job was one of the first things I ever did on a Cummins 5. 9L... on a 1999 2500 2WD. All I remember is that the top bolt on the starter took a few minutes longer than the rest... and I had to "pry" on the sensor a little once I removed the retainer bolt... but don't remember anything too difficult. Of course different trucks, different levels of corrosion effects on parts... etc. Definately no dipstick tube issues that I recall. And I didn't have a manual... only TDR. (PS: Factory service manual is the only way to go)

I will say this... Chrysler didn't have any more to do with the placement of this sensor and Ford did with the headgaskets on a 6. 0L International. The sensor has to go where it can get its signal... and still be replaced. Not everything can be as easy as removing the air filter.

Replace an injector on this... then replace one on a 2002 Duramax LB7. Then say one is better than the other. They've all got drawbacks here and there.

Me... I like a challenge. Like a blown out spark plug on a Ford Triton V10... with no threads left. Try that for what should have been a simple spark plug replacement. :)
