RDedrick,

Torgue bits ?? If its like my 04. 5, its got eight 13MM flange bolts holding them on. You need to inclose your truck profile.

Has anyone bought or installed these tow hooks that did not have them from the factory? Are they a simple bolt on? I'd be interested in buying anyone's take-offs if they are. Why did people take them off?

The tow hooks were ordered on my truck from the factory. They are mounted to the ends of both frame members. Mine were ordered for some protection as these trucks are weak on the front. These might be taken off because of better protection by personal mounting of aftermarket bumpers like "bull bars etz. " I'm not sure but think the front frame members are already drilled for this addition.

I installed tow hooks on a 05 2500. The hooks bolt right on to the frame. Three of the four bolts are very easy. The lower outboard bolt requires an alarming amount of patience that, as a rule, I do not have.

I removed the tow hooks on my '05 to install a push bar and grill guard, but then I reinstalled the hooks. What a pain in the a__ it was to get the last bolt on the lower outside. I had to use a long neddlenose Visegrip to hold the nut. Oo.

Those of you who are comtemplating the purchase of used tow hooks be aware

it is not just tow hooks but a 'kit'.

There are two extra support brackets per hook that are a bit of trouble to install and

remove but are necessary for supporting the tow hooks. Those that are selling may

not be aware of these extra brackets and just sell you the tow hooks.

You might check with your dealer to see if you can buy the brackets separately but

I think they may only come with the kit.

Great info Lsteiner! Can the entire kit be removed from a truck that had the hooks factory installed?

Rstamand, were you aware it was a kit and did you get all the necessary parts?

Does anyone know how much the kit costs?

I got the whole kit. The extra brackets looked to be redundant ( I get bored of reading directions ) so they sit in my tool box. The tow hooks went into existing holes. Little bit of #@*%!!! but they're on.

Beware the first good yank you impose on those hooks, Your whole bumper assembly might just come off...

THose brackets are how they claim 1&1/2 times vehicle wieght capacity

the whole kit can be removed on the factory installed ones, I had totake them off to put my snowplow mounts on. the brackets bolt to the same bolts on the frame that the bumper does. the other end of the brackets butt up against the backside of the bumper. there were nuts welded to the brackets for the hook bolts that are torx on mine. the bumper mount bolts are impossible to get out on the left side w/o moving the intercooler.

I needed to remove mine when I installed my Buckstops and didn't need to remove

the intercooler. It is tight though, but if you take out the upper intercooler bolts

you can move it around to get clearance. The weight of the intercooler will be held

by the hooks that go over a crossmember so it's not going anywhere. That way

you don't have to mess with the piping to the intercooler.

Something to consider:

Also an option in installing/removing the tow hooks is to remove the stock bumper. It is not that difficult and one old man can do it. There are alignment

pins (one on each side) that hold the weight as long as the bumper is kept back

in place, one builtin alignment pin and 3 bolts per side. After removing 3 bolts

on one side I stuck a drift ( long tapered punch-like tool) in one hole and then

took care of the other side. Don't forget the screws at the ends of the bumper

in the wheelwell area.

Also, longer bolts with the kit? I'm not sure, check it out. :)

I jst lifted my I/c up after taking the upper bolts out, didn't remove it completely. I also put the bumper bolts in from the other side when I put it back together.

Hello Raminspeed,

I have a set of take offs, grill guard would not fit with them on, what is better grill guard or tow hooks here in deer country. Mounted after market hooks as part of grill guard. Let me know if interested and we will discuss it via e-mail.
