Hi folks,

I just bought some CIPA mirrors to replace the stock power/heated units on my truck and am curious if there are any tricks to removing the door panels. In particular, I don't see how the knob for the switch for the power mirror comes off.

Anybody available to shed some light on this for me?

Thanks a bunch..... John

I think it just pulls off, then un-screw the ring to the out side of the whole switch and push the switch through the panel...

As MrDiesel said, the knob just pulls off. There is an internal spring clip that makes the knob a tight friction fit to the shaft for the switch, so you have to pull fairly hard. But don't worry, there's no allen screw or roll pin to be removed.

For the door panels. . it is best to get a tool that is made for the clips in the door. they are "christmas tree" plugs and it is best to get replacement ones as they are sorta destroyed when you pull them. the tool gets into the area without damaging the plastic collar molded in the door panel for the plugs.

Gotcha guys. Thanks a bunch and I'll let you know how it goes. These mirrors are HUGE. Probably wont like the looks as much as the stockers but I'm gonna love being able to see ... ..... Oo.

A Wonder Bar brand pry bar will do it too, although if you don't have one already it probably costs more then the clip tool. I always re-use my door panel clips, they some times look bad but still work fine. If not they are in the HELP section at most auto parts stores...

I have the same mirrors they make the truck look like Mickey Mouse or Dumbo from the front :-laf. Takes a little while to get use to looking at the size but you definately see alot towing with them.

Glass removal

I have the CIPA mirrors on my '97 and they are great when pulling my fifth-wheel. Even without the fifth, it gives a large picture. My problem is that the right hand mirror wont move up and down; just in and out. I suppose a gear is loose, motor needs replacing or a wire is disconnected. The tool I have, from CIPA, to remove the glass is a 8 inch by 1 inch piece of plastic and I am scared to use it, as it feels like it will break the glass. I am not sure of the mechanics of the mirror. What is holding that mirror to the motor? Have any of you ever removed the glass?

Thanks everybody. I ended up picking up one of those tools at the local parts store for $6 and it made it really easy. I didn't buy any new Xmas trees and just reused the old ones. They got pretty mangled but seem to have gone back on fine.

The view out of these mirrors is awesome! While they're big, they're not as funky looking as I thought they would. Lots of glass and the motor works just fine.

All in all, the install is a breeze. No more than a 15 or 20 minute per mirror install start to finish.

Thanks again and I can't wait to tow with them... ... ... John
