Anyone know how to get the ashtray out? I'm not talking about the little insert you take out to dump your ashes. I'm talking about the whole thing, door and all. I want to mount my fuel pressure gauge in there and need to get it out to do it right.

Direct from page 23-51 of the service manual:

(1) Open the ash receiver and place hand inside.

(2) Apply force with an abrupt downward motion and roll rearward.

(3) Dislodge and roll ash receiver out of panel to remove.

The bold-face on "abrupt" is right from the manual... not my addition.

Check my readers rigs out, I took mine out to put in a brake controller. There is a little rectangular hole on the top, just right of center that you can get a fingertip in to help rotate it out. I have a pic of the assembley on my rig page. It doesn't take a lot of force.

Jengle, I like the brake controller in there. Good idea ;) I might have to do the same with mine. I also like the little compartment you have above it. I have that whole big space for 2 little switches for the bun warmers. :( Maybe I need to do some BOMBing there too.

Ask and you shall recieve. I love this site. Now I just got to do it. I was going to mount all three in the cubby hole but after mocking them up I decieded I couldn't see them well enough. I bought a two gauge steering column mount, but that left me with a dilema of where to put the FP gauge. Being that I don't need it often and I don't smoke, putting it in the ashtray seemed like a neat idea.

Thanks. I may end up modifying the stock cover to fit around the controller if I like it there. So far, it is easy to get to and doesn't interfere with the shifter. I don't smoke either, so it was an easy choice. I plan on putting a CB radio in the large cubby above the ashtray. I have the smaller cubby to the right of the brake control, I may end up shifting it over to there. I am trying to make everything look as much stock as I can, not make it look like an add on part. Good luck with yours.
